there’s not much i can do but be extremely straightforward and honest with all of you.

one of my friends is literally possessed by a powerful fallen angel that wants to attack me.

yesterday, one of my friends * called me and after we talked for a bit, he told me that he was struggling with something in his life. i told him if he’d like to talk about it, he could with me, and so he opened up completely. it turns out that this friend has been possessed by a demon for years, ever since the age of seven, when an extremely powerful demon entered him and caused him to overdose and slip into a coma. he told me that while he was in the coma, he somehow caused the demon to become dormant, but recently the demon has returned, and has been causing problems with my friend’s anger. the demon seems to be one of anger and hatred, so whenever my friend becomes angry, the demon will cause his emotions to become out of control, and he will black out and wake up with no recollection of what he did while he was angry. his friends, however, and all witnesses of whatever incident took place tell him that his eyes literally turn red – the entire eye, nothing but red. that’s why he has to be extremely careful when it comes to controlling his emotions. he is strong enough to build up barriers in his mind to keep the demon from reaching his vocal cords and the rest of his body, so the demon hasn’t yet possessed him completely – but it wants to.

it turns out that the demon, since it is part of his mind, hears everything that another person says to my friend. we discussed different types of warfare—deliverance, exorcisms, prayer, etc. my friend told me that he could hear the demon laughing and saying that nothing would help. at this point i was growing angry with this demon, a demon just like the one that had kept me in Satan’s grasp for three years, just like the one that keeps one of my friends in homosexuality and another in drug addiction. so all of my anger against Satan was unleashed against this tangible demon, which could actually taste my anger and fear, and just laughed. at this point i was tempted to start reading the Bible and praying over my friend, but i knew that i had to be careful, because this demon is so powerful that saying the name of Jesus only hurts it slightly, and it only laughs at prayer. the demon is actually able to transmit its own memories into my friend’s mind, which is how my friend realized that this demon is so powerful because it’s one of the original fallen angels!

but that’s not the worst part of this entire situation in my life. the demon actually grew angry with me when i started talking about God, explaining to my friend that God will forever be infinite times stronger than Satan, and that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. i actually ended up speaking with the demon as it provoked me to become angrier and angrier at its outright lies. i wonder if demons actually believe the lies they tell us and are simply deceiving themselves …

my theory is that the demon would hurt me if it could, but can’t truly touch me or possess me because i’ve been born again and have a faith too strong to ever allow it to take over my body. is it possible for a demon to possess a passionate Christian? my friend told me that when he talked to me, he felt better, and could feel a warmth inside that he could tell was the strength of my faith. my theory is that the demon couldn’t stand to be inside someone who is passionate for God, anyway, but the demon became so angry with me as i responded with scorn to its lies that now it wants to hurt me. my question to you is—how much can a demon do to a Christian?

apparently, now this demon wants my soul, and while i trust that God won’t let anything happen to me, part of me is still scared. please, i desperately need your help—what should i do? i plan to talk to my pastor when i go to Confession on sunday, but what should i do about my friend? does anyone on here know anything about deliverance and exorcisms? and how can i protect myself? i’m still going to be a good friend and comfort my friend every day, but i have to be careful that the demon doesn’t manipulate my emotions and feed off my anger again—because every time i grow angry, it feeds off my anger and hurts my friend by scratching his back, literally leaving red marks.

please, everyone—i’m in an extremely desperate situation. this demon can’t make me go to hell, but apparently if i ever see my friend face to face while he’s still possessed, this demon will try to take my soul and keep it for eternity. is that even possible, or another lie of the enemy? how can i help my friend? and most of all, how can my friend be delivered from this incredibly powerful fallen angel? please, i’m asking all of you for your prayers and for your help. i’m crying out to God, to our Blessed Mother, to all the saints and angels. this morning i thought of the St. Michael the Archangel prayer, and i was considering saying that over my friend. do any of you know any other prayers? how can i stay safe from this demon? God is forever infinitely more powerful than Satan, so i’m assuming that the demon can’t truly do anything and is just trying to scare me—do any of you know anything about how much power a demon has over a Christian’s soul? this is the most terrifying situation i’ve ever endured in my life, and i don’t know what to do. please help me. thank you so much to all of you who took the time to read this. God bless you all. and even though i’m going through this at the moment, please know that i’m never too busy or upset to care for each and every one of you—so please, if any of you ever need anything at all, please don’t ever hesitate to contact me. stay strong, and stay safe, and take care of yourselves.

love,
in the peace and love of Christ,

Alison,

Hi. I just looked at your profile and you are very young - 16. My advice to you is to seek counsel from your church pastor as soon as possible. You need the strength of God to deal with this situation.

You are living in fear and this is no way to live. I would avoid this friend for the time being. You need to be as far away from this situation as possible. You should enjoy life as a 16 year old should…concentrating on your homework, chatting with your girlfriends, going to the mall, joining clubs at school.

God is always stronger than evil. Ask Blessed Mary to help you understand how you can protect your well being. Listen to what your priest tells you and protect yourself from any negativity.

Please call your church today and ask for help. If you are waiting too long to hear back from your pastor, go to your church when it’s open and ask to speak to a priest. You really need to talk to a priest.

You will be in my prayers tonight when I pray the Rosary. PM me if you like also.

Hello,

What I have to say is really unhelpful, I know, and isn’t the answer you’re searching for, but I just wanted you to know that I’ll pray my rosary tonight for you and your friend.

Please, speak to your priest. I don’t know if anyone here can properly treat with something like demonology.

At the very least, make sure you’re wearing a visible, blessed crucifix and pray to St. Michael often.

I will pray for you and your friend. I too have a friend who is struggling terribly right now and I feel that she might be/ have been opressed by demons as well, i am scared for her life.

St Michael pray for us
:gopray:

Dear Allison,

I volunteer with a deliverance ministry, and for your friend, I would recommend his going to a priest to begin the process to request a Solemn Exorcism. What you’re describing does sound like a full-blown possession, but really an exorcist should determine that.

Now as for you, there are some guidelines to follow to avoid harm to yourself. Basically, **no talking to the demon directly, no commanding it - direct all prayers of deliverance to God. ** You can find examples of such prayers in the Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog.

I highly recommend you pray the Hedge Prayer for Protection of Self.

There is more information at the St. Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling. You might send him that link, but really this sounds like a level of demonization that will require more than what we can do in a deliverance ministry. He likely needs a Solemn Exorcism.

It really takes an exorcist priest, to determine if there is in fact demonic possession. In fact, a parish priest may blow you off.

Also, it could be a psychological disorder, and not demonic possession.

Either way, your friend needs help.

Also understand, a demon can not take possession of you, if you do not surrender your will to him. Demonic possession is a process, not a sudden event. Wear a scapular and always pray for the protection of the Blessed Mother.

God Bless
Jim

Yes, I have seen the demonic take control of someone who by everyone else’s estimation was a devout Catholic and who herself did not know of any sin major enough that she had committed to deserve that though perhaps she is just ignorant. If you read the exorcism of Emily Rose (I think!?) online (haven’t read in a while!), you see that she was possessed because of the sins of her Father (I think?!) There is a wonderful St. Raphael prayer for healing in the family tree.

Perhaps you should arm yourself with blessed Marian medals, St. Michael medals, a St. Benedict medal, and a St. Benedict crucifix, and Marian scapular. However, don’t worry 🙂 , anything that God allows works out for the greater good. The person who suffered the horrible experience of loss of mind due to evil so that she spent several days in humiliation and constant prayer to Mary to retain the tiniest semblance of control over herself, emerged from that experience much spiritually strengthened, with nothing really lost from those experiences in the very long-term except her reputation :o , and God worked several small to outside yes - nearly impossible and overwhelmingly powerful to her own eyes miracles in her life during that time, and directly communed with her later in the manner in which he has communed with some of the saints, as well as convinced her that spiritual warfare is deathly serious which she wouldn’t have known had she not gone through it. So, you can’t lose, even when it looks like you’ve lost, if you stick with Jesus and Blessed Mother Mary.👍

*The following text of Father Gabriel Amorth, chief exorcist of the Vatican, is taken from the March-April, 2003 issue of "Echo of Mary, Queen of Peace. michaeljournal.org/rosarypower.htm *
Faith as Trust and Joy-Evangelium
The recent Apostolic Letter of John Paul II, “Rosarium Virginis Mariae” (released last October 16) encourages all Christians to turn back to the prayer strongly recommended both by the latest Pontiffs and recent Marian apparitions. Paul VI called the rosary a compendium of the Gospel. To make it more complete, John Paul II added the ‘mysteries of light’ to cover Jesus’ public life. Padre Pio called the Rosary beads a weapon of extraordinary power against Satan.

One day a colleague of mine heard the devil say during an exorcism: “Every Hail Mary is like a blow on my head. If Christians knew how powerful the Rosary was, it would be my end.” The secret that makes this prayer so effective is that the Rosary is both prayer and meditation. It is addressed to the Father, to the Blessed Virgin, and to the Holy Trinity, and is a meditation centered on Christ.

From **Secret of the Rosary ** montfort.org.uk/Writings/Rosary.html
Thirty-Sixth Rose:Freed from Satan In 1578 a woman in ANvers had given herself to the devil and had signed the contract with her own blood. Shortly afterwards she was stricken with sincere remorse and had an intense desire to make amends for this terrible deed. So she sought out a kind and wise confessor who advised her to go to Father Henry, one of the Fathers of the Dominican Friary, who was Director of the Rosary Confraternity in that town, to ask him to enroll her in it and hear her confession.
Accordingly, she went to ask for him but met, not Father Henry, but the devil disguised as a Dominican Father. The latter scolded her pitilessly and said that she could never hope to receive Almighty God’s grace again as long as she lived, and that there was absolutely no way in which she could regain possession of her contract. This grieved her greatly but she did not quite lose hope of God’s mercy and sought out Father Henry once more, only to find the devil a second time, and to meet with a second rebuff. She came back for the third time and then at last, by Divine Providence, she found Father Henry in person–the priest whom she had been looking for–and he treated her with very great kindness, urging her to throw herself upon the mercy of Almighty God and to make a good confession. He then received her into the Confraternity and told her to say the Rosary frequently.
One day while Father Henry was saying Mass for her Our Lady forced the devil to give her back the contract which she had signed. In this way she was delivered from the devil by the authority of Mary and by her devotion to the Most Holy Rosary
*Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou among women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. *

Excerpt from St. Louis Mary de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary
g) Lastly, Mary must become as terrible as an army in battle array to the devil and his followers, especially in these latter times. For Satan, knowing he has little time - even less than ever - to destroy souls, intensifies his efforts and his onslaughts every day. He will not hesitate to stir up savage persecutions and set treacherous snares for Mary’s faithful servants and children whom he finds more difficult to overcome than others.
**51. ** It is chiefly in reference to these last wicked persecutions of the devil, daily increasing until the advent of the reign of anti-Christ, that we should understand that first and well-known prophecy and curse of God uttered against the serpent in the garden of paradise. It is opportune to explain it here for the glory of the Blessed Virgin, the salvation of her children and the confusion of the devil. “I will place enmities between you and the woman, between your race and her race; she will crush your head and you will lie in wait for her heel.
**52. ** God has established only one enmity- but it is an irreconcilable one - which will last and even grow increasing to the end of time. That enmity is between Mary, his worthy Mother, and the devil, between the children and the servants of the Blessed Virgin and the children and followers of Lucifer.
Thus the most fearful enemy that God has set up against the devil is Mary, his holy Mother. From the time of the earthly paradise, although she existed only in his mind, he gave her such a hatred for his accursed enemy, such ingenuity in exposing the wickedness of the ancient serpent and such power to defeat, overthrow and crush this proud rebel, that Satan fears her not only more than angels and men but in a certain sense more than God himself. This does not mean that the anger, hatred and power of God are not infinitely greater than the Blessed Virgin’s, since her attributes are limited. It simply means that Satan, being so proud, suffers infinitely more in being vanquished and punished by a lowly and humble servant of God, for her humility humiliates him more than the power of God. Moreover, God has given Mary such great power over the evil spirits that, as they have often been forced unwilling to admit through the lips of possessed persons, they fear one of her pleadings for a soul more than the prayers of all the saints, and one of her threats more than all their other torments.
**53. ** What Lucifer lost by pride Mary won by humility. What Eve ruined and lost by disobedience Mary saved by obedience. By obeying the serpent, Eve ruined her children as well as herself and delivered them up to him. Mary, by her perfect fidelity to God, saved her children with herself and consecrated them to his divine majesty.
**54. ** God has established not just one enmity but “enmities”, and not only between Mary and Satan but between her race and his race. THat is, GOd has put enmities, antipathies and hatreds between the true children of the Blessed Virgin and the children and slaves of the devil. They have no love and no sympathy for each other. The children of Belial, the slaves of Satan, the friends of the world - for they are all one and the same - have always persecuted and will persecute more than ever in the future those who belong to the Blessed Virgin, just as Cain of old persecuted his brother Abel, and Esau his brother Jacob. These are the types of the wicked and of the just. But the humble Mary will always triumph over Satan, the proud on, and so great will be her victory that she will crush his head, the very seat of his pride. She will always unmask his serpent’s cunning and expose his wicked plots. She will scatter to the winds his devilish plans and to the end of time keep her faithful servants from his cruel claws.

But Mary’s power over the evil spirits will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lie in wait for her heel, that is, for her humble servants and her poor children whom she will rouse to fight against him. In the eyes of the world they will be little and poor and, like the heel, lowly in the eyes of al, downtrodden and crushed, as is the heel by the other parts of the body. But in compensation for this they will be rich in God’s graces, which will be abundantly bestowed on them by Mary. They will be superior to all creatures by their great zeal and so strongly will they be supported by divine assistance that, in union with Mary, they will crush the head of Satan with their heel, that is, their humility, and bring victory to Jesus Christ.
St. Padre Pio, who said, “The Rosary is The WEAPON”, said as many as 90 rosaries a day in a special form for which he received ecclesiastical permission. Father Thomas Euteneur, President of Human Life International, cites this in The Rosary Batters the Gates of Hell hli.org/sl_2008-10-03.html (I cannot think of a saint who spent more of his life engaged in direct spiritual warfare than St. Padre Pio. Why, in one of his writings, the one that Mary has enmity with is said to have told him that he snatches more souls from him than St. Michael. He’s a good one to do more research on to learn more about spiritual warfare 👍 )

Here is the story of a SAINT, in the Catholic Church who was a former priest of what Mary has enmity with: catholicity.com/commentary/landry/00691.html
THANK YOU SO MUCH, Eucharisted for posting this in another thread and allowing me to read this beautiful story of release, conversion, victory, and Rosary.

May the LOVE and MERCY of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the WONDERS of the Mother of the Word be proclaimed, learned, understood, and loved throughout all time, forever and ever, in all areas of creation!! AMEN!! AMEN!! AMEN!!

P.S. A powerful and important excerpt from St. Mary Faustina’s Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul #378,
#378 But God has promised a great grace especially to you and to all those… who will proclaim My great mercy. I shall protect them Myself at the hour of death, as My own glory. And evein if the sins of the soul are as dark as night, when the sinner turns to My mercy he gives Me the greatest praise and is the glory of My Passion. When a soul praises My goodness, Satan trembles before it and flees to the very bottom of hell.

If you needed surgery, you would go to the doctor, you’d not try to do it yourself based on something you read on the internet.

This is more serious than surgery. Speak to your Priest.

Demons cannot possess a Christian; therefore the best cure is conversion, but this can only come from God. you may want t read about the Demoniac in Scripture to get a better grasp. Also, if you are a Christian yourself, you have no fear over demons.

If the conversion to Christ is of the heart, no, a Christian can not be possessed. However, if a person is a Christian in name only, then yes they can and have been possessed by demons.

In his book, “Hostage to the Devil,” by Malachi Martin, one of the five Church documented and confirmed cases of demonic possession, was that of a Catholic priest.

take your friend to a priest immediately. Call the parish and ask for an appointment about “an urgent pastoral matter”. there is no need to tell the person answering the phone what it is about.

Two children or teens, or indeed two lay people, are not competent to judge if demonic possession is taking place.

When I read a thread like this my heart just sinks. How convenient to blame demonic possession for every rotten, dumb or just plain stupid decision we ever make in life. I have to ask myself do I really want to embrace a faith which promulgates such utter hogwash and self deception but thankfully this is not Catholicism; this is not what the Church teaches. This is verging on mass hysteria.
Demonic possession is as rare as Miracles. By all means visit your priest but a doctor should be the first point of call.

The Church teaches that demonic possession is real, just as she teaches miracles are real.

However, not all cases are actually demonic possession and not all events are actually heaven sent miracles.

Which is why, the posters in this thread have recommended that the OP take it to a priest.

thank you so much, everyone, for taking the time to respond and give me good advice. i will definitely call my pastor today - who is an amazing man and has helped me and blessed me so much, and i trust him completely - and talk to him about what’s going on with my friend.

black_dog - i’m so sorry beyond words if my post offended you in any way. i was not attempting to blame my problems or my friend’s problems on demonic possession in any way. from what i’ve seen, heard and experienced with my friend, this definitely seems like a case of full-blown possession that will require an exorcism. i’m truly sorry that i seem to have offended you - it was not my intention at all to cause arguments, confusion or hysteria. i was incredibly desperate when i posted this, and this was the first and only place i thought of that could help me and give me advice as to what to do for my friend. i’m not attempting to do anything myself - i’m sorry if any of you interpreted it that way. i know that i can’t handle something like this, especially as a year-old Christian and month-old Catholic, and especially at the age of sixteen. it wasn’t my intention to be offensive or to cause hysteria, and i truly am sorry if any of you were offended or upset by this post. i do believe that demonic possession is rare, but i also believe from what i’ve witnessed that even if it’s not possession (and i believe that it is), it’s something incredibly serious that i can’t handle myself. because i can’t handle it myself, i came here for help - i’m sorry if i should have gone somewhere else. i probably should have, and i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to cause trouble with this post. i didn’t meant to offend anyone in any way at all - i just wanted to let you all know that something serious and dangerous and frightening is going on with my friend, and after my incredible experience on here so far, i trusted completely that you all could help me in at least some small way.

i’m not nearly as frightened or intimidated as i was when i first posted this. i trust completely that God will take care of me, and won’t let anything bad happen to me. the demon has spoken to me and said horrible things to me that i simply ignore (why should i let evil intimidate me?), and it did say something about not being able to touch me, and then refused to tell my friend why it can’t hurt me. yes, my conversion from darkness to Jesus was definitely from the heart, and so i believe that i am safe and under the protection of St. Michael the Archangel, our Blessed Mother and God Himself. i’m no longer worried about being possessed or hurt by this demon - i simply am concerned for my friend.

i’m not trying to do anything by myself … i need help, and my friend needs help, and that’s why i posted this. i did not intend to offend anyone or make anyone angry with me, and if i did, i truly am sorry beyond words. 😦

God bless you all, and thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. stay strong, and stay safe, and take care of yourselves. i am keeping all of you in my constant thoughts and prayers.

love,
in the peace and love of Christ,

Hi Jim,

There is an example of a faithful Catholic who was a victim soul through a lifelong possession. It is described in the book Evidence of Satan in the Modern World by Msgr. Leon Cristiani.

Such cases though, are extremely rare. It’s more common for people to become demonized who are lacking conversion to Christ in the heart as you described. There are a number of people who would call themselves Christian, yet don’t pray, don’t go to Church, dabble in the occult, don’t make any effort to avoid sin, etc. etc.

Those things have to be dealt with for a person to be delivered. Otherwise just doing prayers of deliverance alone is like a swat team approach - you go in and have the demons thrown out, but they will return because the person doesn’t have Christ in them to keep the devil out.

Hi beckycmarie;

Being a faithful Catholic, doesn’t mean the person is a faith filled Christian. There are Catholics who follow the religion very well, but out of conformity, than actual faith in Christ Jesus.

As I mentioned earlier, in Hostage to the Devil, the Church has the documented case of a Catholic Priest who was possessed.

As I recall, this priest was idealistically naive and very liberal. He was more of a hippie priest, than an anything else. He didn’t believe that sex was for marriage only, didn’t believe women should be prohibited from the priesthood, etc, and he preached these things to his parishioners.

His possession began as he started to dabble in New Age stuff, which included the occult. Through this experience, be began to question Church teachings, and of course the demon was right there to help him question and doubt. Eventually, he saw himself as being more compassionate and loving toward people, than the leaders of the Church. Eventually, the demon appears to him as a young man, who is very nice and expresses all the idealistic dreams the priest believed in. He gave his will over to the demon and his possession took root. I believe he was the most difficult case for the priest to perform an exorcism on, because the demon used the priest’s knowledge of Catholic doctrine and scripture against him.
