That link took me nowhere. What do you think about it?

26 views but only one response of which didnt help anyways. INTERESTING

If a Catholic knowingly kisses the filthy and blasphemous Koran, there is no possible means of justifying the act.

Pray that Pope John Paul didn’t know what he was doing, because every copy of that book should be burnt and the ashes spat upon.

I hope and pray that no one justifies this act. Just as we should not attempt to justify the actions of the Priest who molested altar boys, so too should we not attempt to justify this act of John Paul II which was probably worse due to the commandment that it violated (the first), and the scandal that it produced due to his position.

Let us follow the example of the holy martyrs of old who were willing to die rather than offer incense to the idols, and not that of those who are willing to compromise the faith, and who praise false religions.

Catholics have a duty to defend the faith, but never a duty to attempt to justify sinful actions of individual Catholics. Keep that in mind when you are debating Protestants.

Isnt the Pope the head of the CC? I think if there is no justification for something like that, which I know there isnt, shouldnt he be relieved from his position.

If the pope thought to himself before kissing the Koran “I know this book I hold contains filthy lies and blasphemies against Our Lord, I know that kissing it would be a grievous offense against God and would gravely scandalize the faithful, but I’m going to do it anyway” and then proceeded to commit the sin, we would have serious problems.

To repeat, let us pray it didn’t happen that way.

I also hope that John Paul was ignorant of his actions which seems a little hard to believe, but even if he knew what he was doing it doesnt really affect me. Christ is the head of the Church i belong to.

He has been permanently “relieved” from his position.

Wow. Way to be offensive.

And, apparently, it’s a sign of thanks for a gift (the kissing of it).

It wasn’t, as far as I know, a sign of respect or “This book is truthful.” Rather, in that culture, the kissing of a received gift shows thanks for it.

And now NewPerspective has only 50% of the posts on his own thread, instead of the previous 6/11%. Congrats.

This issue has been done to death on numerous threads.

It was a silly gesture at best and gravely serious at worst; one wonders how the Franciscan protomartyrs in Morocco would have reacted to it.

It’s because JPII is an Anti-pope and the True Pope reigns in Kansas!

Long live Pope Michael!

sarcasm off

Don’t believe the Sedevacantist hype.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

It was not intended to be offensive but simply a play on the words used in the question.

Not all that far a form from the satire another poster favors and very much in line with my heritage.

There is no way to justify it.

What we must do is not to judge him but instead of it hope and pray that he was ignorant about what he was doing or that he repented it. We do not know what he was thinking at that time.

I’m convinced that he didn’t want to say that he agrees with Islam, we all know that he was a Christian. I would seek the explanation somewhere else, such as his attempt to create peace with the Islamic religion. Of course this still makes him wrong because end doesn’t justify means.

Pope John Paul II Kissing the Quran. Somebody help me out here. Who does that?

First you should ask him to justify his actions and not us!

Second your posts sound like a senseless way to waste time! If it does not affect you why do you care and why do you ask?

Peter sinned, and was rebuked by Paul: Popes can sin, and still hold the Petrine chair without problems in the faith. If he begun teaching heresy, that would be a different matter.

The quote under the images says “The photo of that gesture has been shown repeatedly on Iraqi television and it demonstrates that the Pope is not only aware of the suffering of the Iraqi people, he has also great respect for Islam”

The way I see it, the Holy Father was presented with a gift that he accepted gracefully using the gestures of the culture he was receiving from. It wasn’t just a book he received, but the item at the core of their faith. Rather than cast aside Islam for all of its errors, he was willing to show it respect. Not because he thinks it might be true or that it has equal weight, but because of the implications.

Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are the three Abrahamic faiths. While it is true that Islam takes a hard turn early on in what we call the old testament, it hold certain core truths. There is one God and all of exsistence is His, for example. With this seed of truth understanding and mutual respect can grow. With that peace can form.

With much of the politics in the middle east centered around Islam, it is not a bad idea to have peace between their faith and ours. What good does it to kill each other? Jesus said let the weeds grow along with the wheat. He is the harvester, he’ll collect what is his when the time is right.

It is very encouraging to see that no one has defended this. There was a time not too long ago when the personality cult that surrounded John Paul II was such that even the most outrageous actions of his were defended.
