Please kindly explain to me why in our Catholic churches we have these carved images and yet the Bible says otherwise?

Dear Brothers and sisters in Christ

One of the ten commandments says deut5;8-9 'you shall not make yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything in heaven above…Now in our Catholic churches we have these carved images of Mary,Joseph etc and even a place to kneel down before them.Please kindly explain to me why this is so and yet the bible says otherwise.l stand guided.
