Hello. For those of you who have followed my history on CAF, you probably know or remember that I have had troubles with a neighbor I am friends with named Donna. Both she and I feel very strongly about our faiths. She is a Fundamentalist Pentecostal (Trinitarian). Well, here’s the problem. I went to her apartment earlier to visit and I was just trying to make conversation so I asked her what she was reading. She told me that she was reading a magazine about Easter and how Easter is “pagan”. She then went on and on about how it was based on a goddess and how there is no goddess in Heaven and how there is no queen of Heaven. I then told her that I believed in a Queen of Heaven. I said this in as non-confrontational a manner as I could. Well, she then started going on and on again about how there are no goddesses in Heaven. I addressed her as best I could (which wasn’t very well) and then I left. I remember at one point in the conversation she said “I’m just trying to tell you the truth. I am not ashamed of Jesus.” to which I responded, “I am not ashamed of Jesus either.” Thankfully, I was then able to turn the conversation to other things. At the end of my visit with her, I apologized for arguing with her about it and she brought it up again! I got tired of it and politely said “Well, I’m going to let you guys go.” and then I wished them a good evening and left. Donna and I are still on good terms. I also told her “I’d rather us just agree to disagree.” and she said “Well, I definitely disagree with you!” and she kind of laughed a bit. Anyway, please pray that God would soften her heart towards Catholicism and show her the truth.

At one point, I told her “You shouldn’t accept what that magazine says like it was the pope.” and she just paused for a second and kind of looked at me in a thinking manner.

Well, thanks everyone in advance!

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

Saying a prayer to the Queen of Heaven for her. 😃 👍

Keeping this situation in prayer, Holly, and especially Donna and her attitudes…praying The Holy Spirit will guide and inspire you and enter fully into this situation with His Grace…

Holly, I understand your frustration. One of my closest friends is a devout protestant, who has on many occasions, opened serious argumentative discussions about Catholicism. While some of these discussions have ended without discourse, I’m afraid that her attack of the Catholic faith has indeed created a serious strain on our relationship. She has gone so far as to say that the Catholic Church is the work of the devil… (I’d really rather not go further into her attack.)

It saddens me to see the distance that has been created between us, as she fought so strongly to pull me away from my faith. I keep her in my daily prayers, and will do the same for you and your relationship with Donna.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Praying to our Queen of heaven to help her, also i find when people cant discuss their beliefs calmly without getting angry, they are not very secure in their beliefs :byzsoc:

Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, I don’t really know what to do yet. I am thinking of printing out a tract from the main Catholic Answers webpage and giving that to her. In fact, I think I’ll do that! 😃

Thanks to everyone else for your prayers as well. 👍

I’m praying for you and your neighbor Donna.

Thank you Renato.

Anyway, I printed out the Catholic Answers “Is Catholicism Pagan?” and also the New Advent article about Easter for her to read. 🙂

Hi everyone. Today I asked Donna to read some Catholic apologetics material that I printed out on the library computers (spent almost $2.00 printing it out… it was $.10 per page). Well, I got a very bad reaction from her before she even read the material. In fact, she flat out refused to read the material when I told her it was about Easter and how Catholicism is not Pagan. Needless to say, I went back to my apartment and was rather angry that I had just printed out that material for nothing. She does not know that I spent money on it but I am considering telling her that when I see her again. Of course, I will tell her in a nice way and I have now forgiven her for being so rude to me. If anything, I just want her to know that our faith is logical and not Pagan so that she will respect me and my faith more.

Lord let Donna be loving and accepting of Holly and her Catholic faith . Lord let Donna be closer to understanding Catholicism and if it be your will let her become a Catholic . Lord let HOLLY AND DONNA BOTH LOVE YOU AND BE GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR ALL THINGS . Lord LET THEIR FRIENDSHIP BLOSSOM THROUGH YOUR LOVE . thanks for doing this dear Lord , in the name of Jesus, amen . / John

Hi everyone. I was at a friend and neighbor’s apartment today and Donna was there as well. Anyway, we got into a discussion about religion again which quickly turned into a debate. Thankfully, I had Betty (the lady whose apartment we were at) on my side for most of the conversation except for when it came to the millennium. They both believe that there will be a future millennium to which I said that I don’t believe in it and they said “It’s in the Bible.” and then I left during the middle of the discussion because they started discussing the rapture and a Bible verse that I don’t understand that is 1 or 2nd Thessalonian. Please continue to pray for Donna and also Betty as well now.

You are very courageous for standing up for your faith. Hope your friends will one day appreciate that…sometimes, all we can do is say a prayer for others that aren’t open to the teachings of the Church. In the meantime, do what you can and try to be patient with them.

Thank you for your advice Simon and encouragement but I must give all the praise and glory to God. It is only through the Holy Spirit and the strength that He gives me that I can stand up for my faith in the face of opposition. I am also being patient with Donna. I am having trouble with not forcing the faith on Keri though. 😦
