For the past few days I have been dealing with a word silently
poping into my head when praying the hail mary
This word I refuse to speak because it is pure Blasphemy towards our blessed Mother I have been to confession today because of it and will also be going agian tommrow please pray for me

I had a problem like this. Whenever it happened I would say out loud 3 times JESUS, JESUS,JESUS and suddenly the devil was gone.

Picture your conscious mind as a ditch in front of your house. Thoughts flow in, thoughts flow out.

Every once in a while, something nasty is going to fall into the stream.

In real life, you would be able to fish this junk out with a stick and throw it away without touching it. But in mental/prayer life, it’s better to just let that stuff flow away, without you touching it or thinking about it. If it flows in, it will flow back out.

See, a lot of times it will make you feel anxious when you think about this stuff or try to ignore it and get rid of it. That will actually train your brain to pay more attention to the stressful and worrying thought.

So if you stay calm and treat the bad thought as nothing worth worrying about, you can actually get the bad thought out quicker. It requires patience, but you can do it.

What you’re experiencing sometimes happens to me as well. Just shake off the thought (I physically shake my head “NO”) and invoke the name of Jesus or Mary and ask for protection from the attacks of the evil one.

Marcel, this is only my second post as I have just joined the forum.

I empathise with you as I have been getting these experiences too. I have only believed in God since April this year and after a couple of weeks of praying to Him, I had the same experience as you. It has really upset me greatly and made me wonder what was wrong with. me. God has been so wonderful - comforting me in my hour of need and giving me my faith and I have been so afraid of “blowing it”, it has made me nervous and this happened.

I felt God was moving away from me because of this, but in my heart I know he would not forsake me. I think it was my own bad feelings and conscience about this.

Anyway, I am looking forward to reading the replies to your post as I need this help too. I know how much this hurts because I never want to hurt God and I am just so upset that this has happened to me too. I know you feel the same way.

I do get terribly anxious and my mind runs away with me when I’m upset. I never thought about the devil trying to take hold. I have been in the devil’s grip for a long time now, so maybe he has been trying harder to get me back?

I am rambling so much here, I’m sorry. I just wanted to let you know I understand completely and your post and the replies will help me so much too. You’re not alone. We can overcome this.

Edited to add: When this happened to me, I felt so hopeless, like I’d never be able to be a good Christian that I almost felt like giving up. The devil surely wants me to give up. But I won’t because God came to me when I needed him most and made me believe. I can never forget that, however imperfectly I may pray to Him.

Edited again to add: It just occurred to me, these words didn’t come into my mind before I believed. This has only happened since I began praying to God. So now I think it must be the devil trying to get in my way.

I have sooooo been there!! I haven’t experienced exactly what you have described, but something very similar. My advice is: don’t beat yourself up. I learned that I had a type of OCD called “scrupulosity”. I bought a book about it and it helped me greatly! (Understanding Scrupulosity by Thomas M. Santa) You have some wonderful people praying for you!
