Hello. I’m 18 and have been going through this period of intense spiritual dryness for almost a month and a half now. I’ve been through spiritual dry spells before, but this is different. Every other time it’s happened, it passed in a week or even in after a day. But this has been ongoing. Sure, it’s worse some days than it is on others, but I still feel it even on the “good” days. This is much different than what I’ve been through before. The other times, prayer always helped. Now, I’m just left with this feeling of emptiness and longing. I feel like every time I try to get closer to God, He just gets further and further away. I almost feel like I’m losing my faith because this dryness has lead to me even wonder if God is there and listening to me. I know that God listens, but at the same time I don’t know if He is there. These doubts just keep piling up, making the whole situation worse. Whenever I do manage to pray, I feel like I’m just going through the motions. I’m even starting to wonder if I’ve ever truly prayed to God because of this. It’s making me question my whole relationship with God and everything I know to be true. It feels like God just isn’t there anymore. I know that faith isn’t a feeling, but that’s the best way I can think of it. I do the LoTH every day, as well as daily Mass when my schedule allows. I’ve prayed to God numerous times for help, but He hasn’t answered my prayers. I know that I’m probably thinking “as man does”, so to speak, but still. I feel like God has abandoned me, or that I’ve abandoned Him as I’m not quite sure which one it is yet. This is torture for me! It seems like every plea for help goes unanswered. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m going into the seminary in the fall, as well. It’s getting harder and harder to trust that this is all a part of God’s plan for me. Any advice is appreciated. I’ve tried everything I can think of, and am at my wits end. I don’t know what to do anymore! I know that it’s normal to have doubts, but I feel like I’m losing my faith. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
