I have never had one before but my mom and sister both have them and are on medicine for it. I am on medicine now for adult ADD and this is the last thing I need too because I am getting ready to start being an Altar Server and when the next Children’s RCIA class begins in the summer I am going to start teaching AND be the only teacher…so PLEASE, I need all the prayers I can get so I can get this under control. The last thing I need is to have something like that happen while I’m serving or teaching class.😦 Thanks and God bless you…

Anxiety attacks can be very scary. Did you say you are taking medication for them? I know meds do help, actually can eliminate them altogether. Therapy can work too. I will pray for your healing in my rosary tonight. You will be fine!

Alot of people will be praying for you to find the correct resolution to this event.

The same genes are behind BiPolar Disorder Anxiety Disorders, Autism, Aspergers and ADD/ADHD. Even though the same genes are involved, each of these are different illnesses with different treatments.

The reason why I mention this is you talked about the fact that you had a panic attack just like your mother and sister. It’s very important that you divorce yourself from your mother’s and sister’s condition and make sure to report only what you were feeling.

The possibilities include:

potassium/calcium toxicity/depletion
anxiety attack
adverse reaction to ADHD medication
adverse effect to not taking ADHD medication

These things have to be evaluated by a physician (psychiatrists are physicians). This needs to be evaluated soon, (as in make the next appointment that you can now with the doctor prescribing the ADHD medication)

Good luck. People are praying for a positive resolutionfor you.

I called my doctor when I left Mass and told him what happened. I had no clue what was happening to me, but he told me he thought it was a panic attack. I have been on Straterra (ADHD med) for 2 1/2 weeks so I wouldnt think it would be the meds…but he told me call him if it keeps up. Anyway I had no clue what they felt like! As for divorcing myself with the fact that my mom and sister have them…thanks for the advice…I think?

Praying for your intentions.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Praying that you will be able to bring anxiety/panic attacks under control …

Ukdal:

I read your post and started to feel anxious myself… It sounds like you have a lot of things to do and somehow have come to believe that you have to do of these perfectly, effortlessly by yourself, without making a spectacle of yourself with a full-blown panic attack during the Mass, or any other time, and that the LORD, or the HIS Church, will reject you if anything goes wrong.

I think I know the fear - I’ve shared here that I have 2 disc ulcerations in various stages of removal and an acoustic nerve with a severe Balance and Hearing impairment coupled with Bells Palsy on one side of my face. I’ve even fallen while trying to get up in the middle of the sanctuary in front of a church full of people on 2 different occasions. I rarely genuflect and sit most of the time the congregation stands and kneels for the same reason. I’m one of the few Lectors who doesn’t genuflect when entering the Sanctuary, and I sit in front pew because I’m hard of hearing.

I’m a “spectacle on the hoof”! You can’t possibly be more of a spectacle than I am. And yet, the LORD found me and brought me in after I rejected HIM.

Have you talked to anyone else about this? Say your pastor about getting a teacher to help out with the RCIA class… Or the LORD about how terrified you are that a panic attack will occur…

The LORD never said we had to do eveything on our own, and HE promised to send HIS Holy Spirit to help us if we only asked… You might want to also ask your pastor to send you someone who’s orthodox and faithful to help you teach the class.

I see no reason why you have to take on being the only RCIA instructor and an Alter Server at the same time; esp., since in most Catholic parishes, the Alter Servers also read the Readings. That would be a lot for someone who didn’t have your condition.

I would figure out which one I have more training for, and would be better at, and do that one. One way to avoid Panic Attacks is to work within your limits and to do the best you can at those tasks. Another way is to reduce the emotioal load or impact one would have if it happened.

Another way is not to listen to the “voice” that tells you everything will be disastrous if you don’t do everything, or if you don’t do it ALL “perfectly, effortlessly, on your own”, etc… (Insert own unrealistic garbage). Please remember that voice comes from the “Lier and Father of Lies” and the “Thief who comes to steal (your peace, joy) kill and destroy (your life in Christ)”.

Don’t listen to him. Tell him in JESUS’ NAME where he can go. “Resist the devil and he will flee.” Often, physical and emotional healing must be preceded by spiritual healing.

Of course, I’ll add you to and keep you in my prayers.

I hope this helps.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Ukdal,I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, don’t make too much of having one. I’m I’m bipolar, that’s why I suffer from them and I take meds for them which have almost taken them away completly.Do see your DR.it could be your medication that caused it.They can be scary, keep your eyes on GOD,and remember HE is bigger than any anxiety attack. Will be praying for you.

I am an altar server. It is the best thing I have ever done. When I altar serve, I feel at peace with God. Don’t worry about your anxiety attacks. When you serve, tell the other altar servers about them, so they will know what’s going on, and can help you. Remember that God is watching over you. Good luck!

ukdal, my heart goes out to you, and my prayers along with it! Just a note to your post above, as I read Antegin’s post, I see that Angtegin only wanted you to be certain to not make assumptions about your new condition based on your mother and sister’s conditions, a mistake many of us are prone to make… this advice was not meant to disregard their suffering in any way.

May the good Lord, pour out his blessings upon you and your family ukdal! Be it his will, may he restore you all to perfect health, that you may bear witness to his eternal glory, in thanks and praise!

Praying to St. Dymphna for you. I have family members who occasionally have panic attacks. One of them controls them with medication and the other one just fights them off. My perception is that they occur to them when they are overly stressed.

Praying for your speedy recovery!

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name! Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trepass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the Kingdom, and Power and Glory forever and ever! :amen:

👍 Sweet child of God!

I to have been serving the Lord from childhood and as an adult developed anxiety, so you are not alone and your sufferings are being lifted to Jesus by your Guardian Angel 🙂 . Take comfort in this forum, if it helps you, it has done miracles for me, including calming my anxiety. Pray for the intercession of the young saints like, Saint Therese, Saint Philomena or Gerard Magella, and mother Mary of course who at such a young age had to be responsibe for EMMANUEL.

We pray for you and support you, because our church needs diamonds like you, who will continue to shine the Lord’s gospel on the world.:angel1:
