I understand what you’re saying. I am a very shy person who has quite a few mental and emotional problems… I really do understand.
I also have a
lot of experience sinning and needing confession, unfortunately. It was very bad, because I was so shy and so embarassed to call and make an appointment, but what got to me was the Love of Christ, and the Love He wants me to give to Him. He did so much, dying on a cross, being beaten, being subject to mockery as people falsely bowed down to Him, mimicking the true adoration He should receive, and carrying the cross allll the way from Jerusalem up to the top of Mount Calvary - and the whole time He did it, He had one single thing on His mind: you!
I realized this, and so I realized how meaningless one brief moment of embarassment or nervousness is worth compared to all of that. What is one telephone call for Someone who did these things for me?
And I can tell you the wonderful thing I have learned with all of my making of appointments: it’s really not a big deal! I’ve even driven up to a church to catch the priest greeting people outside after Mass because I needed to go to confession from a mortal sin. The priests are by and large happy to do it, and they are pleased to hear from someone who wants to go to confession.
I can also tell you, if it helps, that I work at a parish answering phones, and so I can tell you how little a deal such a call is to those at the rectory. You certainly are not the only person calling up to make such an appointment, people do it frequently. So you wouldn’t be a big sore red thumb sticking out by any means.
Go ahead and call the church, you could even do it tomorrow. God is waiting for you! :heaven:
