I understand your pain, in AA we say that a person has to hit a bottom, you know when your there, if you are in state of pitiable and incomprehensible demoralization. When I acknowledged that I was there.

And then I became willing to do anything to not drink again, God provided me with AA.

Millions of people in the USA, and around the world have, and are staying sober through the 12 steps.

AA and the Catholic Church have a very long history of recognizing each other. Many of the non-alcoholics who assisted in the birth of AA were Catholic priests. Many Catholic priests will recommend to their parishioners, in private that if they have a problem with drinking go to AA. Once you have been around AA you will find alcoholics who are also Catholic priests in our meeting rooms.

We do not identify ourselves as Catholics, or Protestants, or Jews, our Buddhists, or agnostics, or atheists. In AA we discuss our problem with alcohol and we never mention, nor discuss, our own personal religious choice. AA has one purpose only to help those who want to stop drinking.

I have been sober for 23 years. And by the grace of God, again, I have returned to the Catholic Church after an absence of 35 years.

You have much joy ahead of you. Go to AA to get help.

The Peace of the Lord be with You,

Joe G.

Got ya in my prayers also. hang in there, just look at this as the cross you must bare. But you can do it. Keep asking Jesus to carry you he will. I will be praying for you all week. You can do it!

It seems some people have an addictive nature.
Some drugs, Some drink, Some tv/computer games/ Gambling etc…
What you need to do is find something else to get addicted too.
Maybe if you read the bible, Maybe if you went the gym, Maybe spend more time with family and friends who dont drink.
I have a sister-in-law who was addicted to drugs for 7yrs, I suggested to start a gym class and after a while help out there as well as train, It worked she quickly got an addiction for working out and using the sun bed etc…
Now she manages a pub of her own [she doesnt drink either]
and is doing very good for herself 🙂
moral of the story is:- Find something to take your mind of your drink…
And stay away from friends who are drinking.

Remembering you in the Eucharist today. God grant you peace and healing.

“For I, Yahweh, your God,
I am holding you by the right hand;
I tell you, do not be afraid, I will help you.
Do not be afraid…
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer.” [Isaiah 41:13-14]

Please pray for me. I’m addicted to alcohol and desperetly want to stop

12 step programs work. Also there is a new drug out which takes away all cravings of Alcohol. It is called Vivitrol. It is very expensive.
Alverno, I will also pray for you and hope that you will get closer to God also.

Dragoro, I continue to pray for you. I just talked to my BIL and he said come this May, he is 3 years sober. He too was in and out of rehab and would stop and start again. This time he is ready to put his life in order. I do agree with what someone else said about having an addictive nature for my BIL is like that. He has yet to discover God.

Thanks John for emailing me about this prayer request. I’ve joined the CA forums to respond to this thread.

I pray for Dragoro and all others who are addicted to alcohol. I am also an alcoholic and I write the blog that John provided a link to: sobercatholic.blogspot.com . I will be sober for 6 years this upcoming May 22.

AA helped me to become sober but it wasn’t an easy task. Ultimately I reverted to the Church and it was through the Mass and the sacraments that my sobriety was established. Not to dismiss AA at all, but for me it wasn’t sufficient. And that is the reason I eventually started the Sober Catholic blog. I was thinking that there may be others like me who were seeking what the Church had to offer for healing from addiction.

Later today I’ll read through this thread and maybe post another reply or so. Please feel free to email me through this site or through my blog if anyone needs to talk about their alcoholism.

I’m praying for you. :crossrc:

I watched my father-in-law suffer through alcoholism. He was too proud to admit that he had a problem. His liver finally gave out August 2006 and we burried him.

You’re doing the right thing. Look to Christ for stregnth.

God Bless.

Thanks again for your prayers. I’m not doing so good at it. Causing me to go for days without anything to eat.

I’m going to try AA again wednesday. I’ve always had a problem with AA cause they trat it as a religon. I’ve tied using going to Mass, and while it hasn’t worked for this, its improved my life greatly. I go at least twice a week and always wosh I went more (always sober). So tomorrow if I manage to wake up in time and am able to find the place in time, I’m starting AA again. I really could use prayers and support in this. Its pretty much my last go around less I want to be a bum in the streets. Its my last chance. Please pray for me.

Dear friend,
You don’t have to love AA. You don’t even have to like AA. You just have to go and do what they say. It’s very simple in the beginning and will not conflict with your faith. Please do not allow your dysfunctional alcoholic thinking to construct an excuse.

I will pray for you, of course. God bless.

You might want to seek out an Alcoholics Anonymous group.

Anyway, I’ll say a prayer for you.

I dont know alot about aa but from what I have heard from others, it can really work… Jesus tells us in the bible that no matter what it is drinking gambeling whatever the addiction, you can beat it, there is only once person getting in your way, its yourself, So remember this God gave us our free will. that is the one thing if you ever read job, that God told the devil he couldnt do, take away our free will. So remember when you feel you need a drink, it is the devil who wants to destroy you, just say and i swear this works in your weak moments In the Name of Jesus Christ devil get way from me. Trust me it works, the devil will run, he is scared of Jesus. Keep saying this in your mind when you get weak. trust me it is so hard right now i am sure, But you can do this, its up to you. We all have our crosses to bare, this one is yours, trust me pick up your cross, and stay with Jesus, he will help you carry it when you are weak, stay with him, and AA if you do you will make it. Faith it what its all about. Just say Jesus take over me, help me. Jesus I trust you, and he will help you this is a promise i can and will make to you. The next time you come across a dollar, or someone wants to buy you something get a medal of St Michael. Then get it blessed in church, rub it in you weak moments also. St Michael will help keep the devil away. Pray to him also to help you, he will. St Michael is very close to God, and he will help you beat the devil. Also go to the Blessed Mother she loves you, she will also go to Jesus with you and help you. With Jesus, St Michael, and the Blessed Mother you cant loose. You can do it, I will also pray for you.

Praying for you …

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

You are in my prayers. It is a heavy cross to carry. Thank God that you know of his saving powers and go ahead and pray prayers of thanksgiving for your release from alcohol. God is too good, too great to leave you in the misery of your addiction just turn to him continually.

I can sympathizw with you I had a drinking problem for a long time and I deeply care for you I will be praying for you night and day I promise
