I am in a terrible relationship but am afraid to get out. We have been together for seven years. In the beginning I was much younger, very reckless and made some sinful errors which I justified to myself at the time. I continued the relationship because I thought I could change his heart but I was wrong. I moved to a new town away from my family and him for a job and he moved to the the same town some months later. Now he is the only person I know in this town and as I learned more and have tried to grow in my faith and live a less sinful life I realized he is becoming a temptation for me to return to my more sinful past. He does not understand that I want to be forgiven for my sins of the past and live life differently. Nor does he entertain the notion of coming to church with me or trying to reform our lives. I still go but realize I am utterly unworthy to receive Communion until I resolve this. Because he is the only person who knows me in this town, I still see him. Yet he hurts me emotionally time and time again by a specific action involving the internet that I have warned him about and I realize I need to stop forgiving him because of convenience.
Please pray for the Lord to give me strength. I feel isolated from spirituality and have had difficulty praying about this but will take comfort knowing that you are praying for me. I think I know what I need to do but dread the thought of hurting this guy who has been my only friend for so long.
