I’m sorry I keep on asking for prayer, but right now I feel that I really need help…

I really feel that I’m beyond God’s reach…and beyond repentance and true contrition. I know that these things come from the Holy Spirit…

Please, please pray that God would give me true contrition… that I would see how my sins offend Him. I need this so much… I feel that my salvation depends on this, I need to repent and I feel unable to repent…

thank you

no one is beyond God’s reach, Monica.

and no one is beyond His capacity to forgive.

Father, please help our sister Monica to trust You, to seek Your face and mercy, and to humbly submit her life, thoughts, and soul into Your care. Father please give her Your peace, assurance, and patience. we may not always feel You, Lord, but we know that You are there, and that You love us, and forgive. please help Monica through this spiritually trying time. bless her, help her, and lift her up, O God. in Christ’s holy and precious Name, amen.

Monica, it sounds as if you are closer than you think you are. Remember, you don’t have to be perfectly contrite to receive forgiveness (perfect meaning that you are contrite for you sins because they offend God.) If you are imperfectly contrite (meaning you are contrite because of fear of eternal damnation) you can also be forgiven. You don’t have to be aware of ‘how much’ your sins offend God, only that they offend God. Go to confession. You’ll feel much, much better.

I’m praying for you.

Dear Monica, the Holy Spirit of God’s love is not telling you that you are beyond repentance and true contrition, To think thus is despair, not the word of the Spirit. The decision of repentance is what is required. You obviously feel repentant or you wouldn’t be so upset.

God’s mercy is thus:

“If the greatest sinner should repent at the moment of his death, and draw his last breath in an act of love, neither the many graces he had abused, nor the multiplied crimes he had committed, would stand in his way. Our Lord would see nothing, count nothing, but the sinner’s last prayer, and without delay He would receive him into the arms of His mercy.” (Saint Therese of Lisieux)

“Walk with simplicity in the way of the Lord and do not torment your spirit. Learn to hate your faults but to hate them calmly.” (Saint Padre Pio)

“Heaven is filled with converted sinners of all kinds, and there is room for more” (St. Joseph Cafaso)

Fr. Vincent Serpa

Question: I have gone to confession and prayed to God, but I don’t believe I could ever be forgiven because of the abominations I’ve done. I feel I’m unforgivable. How can I escape this inner fear and self-loathing?

Fr Vincent Serpa replies:
Ask the Lord to make up for your lack. Certainly, nothing—absolutely nothing—could be worse than putting Jesus to death. Yet he willingly endured this to show us how much he loves us, even with our sins. His love is stronger and greater than the worst evil. So you are home free. Accept it! Reality is stronger than feelings.

"Contrition

Contrition is “willful regret” for one’s sins. It isn’t a matter of one’s feelings of guilt, but of conviction of the evil of sin and the resolution to sin no more. In other words, contrition is rooted in the will, not in the emotions. For example, some people are more emotional than others: some get a case of the “scruples” and feel shame or guilt over any little thing, whether it’s sin or not; others can commit murder and never “wallow” in guilt but are still truly contrite. The one is not necessarily more “holy” or making a better Confession than the other. What matters is their conviction – their will to offend God no more, and their resolution to make reparations as far as possible, do their penance, and patiently bear the temporal effects of their sins. Without contrition, Confession is not valid.

“Imperfect Contrition” (also called “attrition”) is regret out of fear of God’s just punishments for sin; “Perfect Contrition” is regret for having offended God. We must always strive for the latter, which always absolves sin in itself if it is coupled with the will to also receive the Sacrament.

One of the keys to confession is the desire to be rid of all of one’s sins. If this is your will, if this is your desire, if you are willing to confess all of your sins and do your penance and resolve to sin no more, then your sins will be forgiven - all of them, even those you may have truly forgotten about. But don’t kid yourself, either, and think you can skip mentioning this sin or that one because you’re embarrassed. Don’t lie to yourself, to your priest, or to God, by omission."

Gospel virtues

Our God, please fulfil my desire to be the person You want me to be. Claim me for Yourself so that Your love triumphs over my sinful habits and selfish responses.
As I keep faith with Your Creation by proper care of my human needs, with Your grace, I ask Your grace to help me abstain from unchristian attitudes and activities. I desire grace to attribute to each spiritual, mental, and physical gift and achievement, its rightful service, without pride, despair, envy, or creation of artificial needs in self or in others.

Grant me a chaste heart that loves generously without subterfuge, sin, possessiveness or selfishness. Grant me to respect the goodness of Your Creation in others’ lives and mine, in chastity appropriate to my state and circumstance. Thus, my soul prepares for Your vision and already breathes Heaven’s life.

Let negative thoughts and imaginings never dominate even my darkest moments, for gloom demonstrates absence of faith and curtails Your expression of love in me. In place of self-doubt, please give me peaceful faith in Your will, so that I honestly accept my humanity, and trust You to win goodness out of failures and situations that appear hopeless.

In humility and obedience, I no longer have cause to be fearful or defensive. Pride and self-will evaporate before compassion for others. Doubt disappears before growing faith. Irritation and hasty judgement dissipate within generous patience and understanding. Loss and hurt quickly flow into acceptance of Your will and compassionate serving of others. Self-indulgence fades before reparation and appropriate self-discipline, to make me a channel of Your love to others.

With Your grace, I want to meet others joyfully, with unselfish love. I want to apply the kindliest interpretation to other’s intentions, regardless of appearance. I want to forgive gladly the instant offence occurs. I implore You to bless those who offend me as bountifully as You bless those who benefit me. I ask grace to face another’s negative behaviour with warmth and sympathetic kindness, and to fulfil another’s true needs cheerfully.

Behold me as I am, our God, with all that I would withhold from You and conceal from myself. Take me, God, with my faults along with the good already received of You. Have mercy and forgive me for all offence and failure. Let Your love flood over my lukewarmness. Use me as I am, and with each moment’s service convert me anew that I grow increasingly centred in You.

Our God, please hear my prayer and grant my desire to live in You even in my darkest times

The Cross of my life

Jesus, my cross is sorrow for others in their anxieties and afflictions, and in the limited help and comfort that I can give them.

The nails are my mistakes and inadequacies that distress or fail others. No sooner do I inhale the breath of Your grace for others than it fouls with my failings. I must again drag up on my nailed wrists and push up upon my transfixed feet, in order to exhale the vapour of lukewarmness and sinfulness—so once again to draw in Your grace.

The faults that characterise much of my life, scourge my soul until it is bruised and faint, sapping my hope and faith. Acts devoid of generous love lash into the wholeness of Your image in me. I am sick with hunger, for I accept too little food of loving, sharing and serving in each moment of Your offering. My hunger is the more intense because others may suffer deprivation for my omissions and sinfulness.

A crown of idle thoughts, and words, of prayer neglected, of reparation postponed, of temptation undefeated, binds up my head with wounds. My inconstancy and unlove are my nakedness. The taunts are my lack of witness of Christ. My every nerve is pain, and it pours from my body in stinging sweat of regret. My lack of love makes my soul a living wound—at times benumbed, or raw with returning consciousness. Repeatedly I seek to escape this crucifixion, but I remain nailed to my weakness, fighting for hope and trust.

“Why do You abandon me, Lord?” Yet not You! Why do You allow me repeatedly to abandon You, in this lingering death of my faults and negligence! Yet, Jesus, because of Your mercy I affirm faith in Your love that brings marvellous blessing out of wretchedness, failure and sin. I cannot transform or resurrect myself, Jesus, but I offer You all that constitutes me, humbly asking that You will do what I cannot.

I give my self, crucified in its egoism and materialism, its pride and disobedience, its unbelief, unlove and ingratitude. Offer it to the Father with Your own crucifixion, so that in You I die to all these imperfections and rise again with You forever in the love and life of the Holy Spirit. Your mercy thereby draws many souls after me.

Thank You, Jesus for this resurrection that You share with us.

Monica you will be in my prayers. I also suggest that you frequent the Blessed Sacrament and read the Bible more often. God be with you.

Lord bless Monica and strengthen her soul that she me grow in your love. Let her feel your mercy and compassion that she may be lifted up from her sadness. This we ask in the mighty name of Jesus.Amen.

Hail Mary…

A Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to You: to be without pity for those who are in suffering or distress. Look down on us, we beg of You and grant us the grace which we humbly and earnestly implore, through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother to whom You confided us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with You. Amen.

Trust In God’s Mercy

Gracious Father,
I thank you for the mercy you have shown in forgiving my sins and for the peace that comes from being reconciled with you and with your Church.

O God, you are faithful, and you never abandon those who hope in you. I know that my redemption from sin and death has been purchased at the cost of your Son’s blood. In return for this priceless gift, I resolve today to renew my trust in your unfailing mercy.

In times of doubt, when painful memories of past sins threaten to destroy the peace you have given, let the power of your Holy Spirit cast out all self-condemnation and give me greater confidence in your word of pardon.

Teach me to encourage others so they, too, may seek your tender compassion and come to know your peace, which nothing can take away.

I pray this in the name of Jesus, your Son, in whom you have restored me to life. Amen.

Remember: "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. " Romans 8:1.

So keep praying, confessing and repenting but most of all have faith!

I am praying for the Lord to increase your faith Monica…
