I am going through a very strong temptation against my faith. I feel very weak and the devil is really taking advantage of this. I don’t think I’ve ever been tempted against my faith so strongly. I also feel very far from God and I’m afraid that I have sinned against Him but haven’t repented… please pray that God would help me understand the truth, and His will, help me repent, and protect me from the evil one. Thank you!!!
 
I will include you in my prayer ritual. I recommend nighttime vigil for focus on prayer. . .

Let the devil be anathema. . .
 
I know what you’re talking about. I’ve been there. There are times when we feel a sense of hopelessness, as if we cannot earn God’s forgiveness. Some things come to mind.

First of all, God knows how much we want to be in his presence. The key is to continue to want to be in his presence, even when we don’t feel anything. This is what St. John of the Cross coined as the Dark Night. The Dark Night is not as dramatic or as colorful as we paint it. It’s really an experience that we have of not feeling God’s presence. To use the words of John of the Cross, we don’t feel any consolation. Just because we don’t feel any consolation, does not mean that God does not know how much we desire to be with him and to feel in his presence.

Secondly, we have to remember that God’s mercy is far more infinite than our sinfulness. You see, sin is part of human nature. Anything that is part of human nature is going to be finite. It is limited. Sin can only go so far. You can only be so sinful. There is no such thing as infinite sin. However, mercy is not part of human nature. Mercy is divine. The divine has no limits. Therefore, mercy has no limits for those who ask for it.

Finally, I would strongly recommend that you use a prayer that I stole from a thief. How’s that for irony, stealing from a thief in order to get to heaven. I go before the crucifix and I say one simple prayer, “Remember me.” It’s not a question. It’s a request. I stole that from the good thief on the cross next to Jesus. “Lord, **remember me **when you enter into your kingdom.”

Those two words, “remember me”, moved Jesus’ heart. “Tonight you shall be with me in paradise.”

I understand why you posted the article now. If the devil is getting at you it’s because
you’re close to God. He doesn’t attack people who do horrible things because he has hold of them. The devil attacks people who love God and do His will.

God doesn’t leave us. Don’t be afraid. I’ll pray for you throughout the day.

Thank you Lord Jesus for setting her free, fill Monica with Your strength to replace the weakness she feels in resisting temptation. Amen.

The LORD said to Paul when Paul struggled with his own temptations and worries: “My Grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness”

Stay close to Jesus and let Him take on your struggle. Confess whatever it is that is causing you anxiety and despair and let that not be a way for the evil one to hold on to you. Keep coming back and we will keep praying that God will see you through as you hold on to Him.
