Hi everyone,

I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 2 years. He was my first boyfriend and it hurts a lot. We are just too different to be together. The problem with his sexuality became a huge problem in our relationship. He is not a virgin and has been addicted to porn since his teenage years. I tried to help him overcome his addictions by talking to him about the psychological effects of porn and how it affects his perspective of women, of our relationship, I introduced him to Crystalina and Jason Evert’s videos on chastity as well. I also encouraged him to go to counselling and to talk to a priest for spiritual direction. However, I don’t think he has done them. Eventually, the relationship became a burden to me. I have become a therapist-girlfriend. There have been several times that he tried to cross the line. He had attempted to compromise my values. It became a cause of fight between us and was angry at him for a while. He apologized and recognized his mistake. He blamed the alcohol for his actions. This happened a few times in our relationship. At some point in our relationship he also cheated on me. But I forgave him.

I did see some changes in him though. He started attending Sunday mass again. He was able to realize how important chastity is. But I doubt that he had stopped the habit of watching porn. He is a lot of work and I am very tired. I feel that everything in me has dried up. It just became too much for me. We are both 26 now. I am a virgin and I value chastity a lot. It breaks my heart to know that the person I love has hurt me a lot because he is a slave of his sexual urges.

I do understand that a lot of men (and women) struggle with pornography considering how the internet has evolved in the recent years. I understood my boyfriend’s struggle and I know that we all deserve forgiveness and second chances. My boyfriend begged for me to stay and that he would do anything for our relationship to work. Does breaking up with him mean that he does not deserve the chance to have a loving and happy relationship? I know God wants us to forgive others, but I cannot forget what he has done to me. Please pray for me that I will find peace in my heart; and that I may eventually find happiness. I am sad and really heartbroken but I am offering it up to God. I am confused right now but I think leaving him was the right thing to do. Because I cannot forget the things he has done to me, and I cannot continue loving him when I have this aching feeling. I pray that there’s someone out there for me who loves God, who understands chastity, and who will truly love me and choose me over porn and other women.

I am sorry you are hurting. I do think you made the right choice, though. You cannot force him to change; he must WANT to change and must choose to change himself. Not allowing him to continue to treat you dishonorably was actually a very loving, respectful thing you did for him–though he might never come to see it that way. I admire your self-respect and commitment to chastity, and wish more women had it! Perhaps then, more young men would step up and be willing to wait until marriage, to have patience and perseverance in relationships, and to understand what honor, respect, love, and marriage are really about.
I think your faith, confidence, and respect (for marriage, for yourself, and for others) really shines through, and those virtues will help you to find someone who understands that you are worth waiting for, because you ARE.
Of course, waiting, dating, and even marriage probably won’t be easy or struggle-free. And most breakups, even for really good reasons, still hurt. 😦
May God bless you and grant you strength and comfort.
I will pray for you. :gopray2:

I am so sorry for all you have endured, and your sadness. Yes God does want us to forgive, but forgiveness does not mean you have to be with someone who hurts you and try’s to make you sin. You made the right decision. God does not want you to be in a relationship that causes you so much pain. God Bless You.

:highprayer:

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”
1John 4:18

Heavenly Father, You created this world and all its inhabitants. You found that man is not good to be alone. I pray this to You, O Lord, that I am in need of a partner for my life.
You have showed us in the Bible that finding the right partner made numerous couples live a happy life. Bless me, Father, that I may build a family like theirs. I believe, Lord, that You do not deny Your children their joy and happiness. I pray that the loneliness in my heart will be gone soon. I pray this to You, O Lord. Amen.

JESUS, HELP ME
In every need let me come to You with humble trust, saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments, troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as a Father and Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!
Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind:
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.
Amen

Like another poster said…You can certainly forgive him. That doesn’t mean you have to be in a relationship with him. I just wanted to tell you that although it hurts, you will find the man that God wants you to be with. Your ex boyfriend sounds like he has some issues that he needs to work out before he’s ready for a serious relationship, let alone marriage. Pornography hurts everyone and the wounds that it causes are deep. I’m praying for you both, but in my opinion, you did the right thing.

God Bless:hug1:

I absolutely agree! Forgiveness is not an offer to trespass against me some more, and if that’s the way it would be taken, then sometimes we must move on, both for our sake and for the sake of the one we’re forgiving!
God does not want you to be in a relationship that causes you so much pain.
I think I understand what you’re trying to say here… but if I may be so bold, I’d be really careful about offering this advice in these particular words, because it could be taken to mean that God doesn’t expect us to struggle or make sacrifices in our relationships.

All good relationships (especially marriages) will experience some rough patches, temporary sufferings, and struggles at times, especially when it’s necessary for growth, etc. But some people seem to think that, “If we’re really in love/meant to be, we will never hurt each other/disagree/argue, because God doesn’t want us to be in pain.” And I don’t think that’s what you mean to say!

God certainly doesn’t want us to be in a relationship that is bad for us, and/or causes us to be drawn away from Him, such as through sin, distraction, or manipulation. And I think that’s what you were getting at–that the guy was both knowingly hurting her, and trying to pull her away from God, rather than helping her draw closer to Him. Is that right?

I hope I understood that correctly. Please do correct me if I’m wrong, as I very well could be… it’s way past my bedtime! 😃

I believe you have made the right decision coz the addiction will not change unless that person is willing. I have experienced it at hand and I regret not ff my gut in the past . Now when I asked my spouse to choose between us and porn he said he won’t choose. And until now I’m suffering inside but I have to be strong for my kids .

Butterflylily,
I hope you pointed out to him that “not choosing” is the same as choosing the porn. 😦

Will pray for you, too. :gopray2:

I am praying that God Blesses you with strength, perseverance, and confidence. I also pray for patience and that you do not settle for anyone less because you deserve the best person God’s has saved for you.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace, The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary Mother of God,
Pray for us Sinners, now and at the our of death. Amen

Keep your head up, Believe Miracles do happen, God Bless you!🙂

O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

I will pray that you remain firm in your convictions and strong in your faith…obviously, our Lord has something different and much better in mind for you…

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer After a Break Up

Lord, thank you for being you and for your willingness to be here with me during this time. It’s been difficult lately with this break up. You know that. You’ve been here watching me and watching us together. I know in my heart that if it was meant to be it would have happened, but that thought doesn’t always mesh with how I feel. I’m angry. I’m sad. I’m disappointed.

You are the one I know I can turn to for comfort, Lord. Provide me with reassurance that this was the right thing for me in my life, as it is right now. Lord, show me that there are so many great things in my future, and offer me solace in the thought that you have plans for me and that one day I will find the person that fits with those plans.

Lord, I just ask for your continued love and guidance during this difficult time, and I pray for the patience of others as I work through my feelings. Though I may have difficulty letting go, I pray that you surround me with people that help me through and lift me up in prayer, in love, and in support.

Thank you, Lord, for being more than just my God in this moment. Thank you for being my Father. My friend. My confidante, and my support.

In your Name, Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
