I will pray for you. Thank you for sharing.

I believe you did the right thing. I know it’s hard to cut ties. If you’re not married, it really is best not to be involved with someone struggling with addiction, no matter what the addiction is. If you’re able to keep distance from him, it will get easier. God may have a future husband in mind for you that is free from addiction and is able to give more of himself to you.

I speak from experience. I am 30, and am currently addicted to porn. I had to break up with a girl I really cared about because I knew she deserved better. Even though I broke up with her, a few months later I was begging to be back in her life.

Porn addiction is being in bondage and is not simply a matter of will power. He’s likely using it even though he doesn’t wish to be. He’s likely to need help, a support group, and he will need to experience a “bottom” before he’s willing to do that. That bottom isn’t as likely to happen if he has you to lean on. Be firm, it’s tough love, and that’s what he needs. It will take time for him to be truly ready to date, maybe even years.

I admire your desire to live a chaste life. I will pray for you and him.
