I hate asking for prayers for myself, it makes me feel selfish, but I really would appreciate some prayers. This morning before Mass, I was praying the Rosary before the Blessed Eucharist and I had HORRIBLE, blasphemous thoughts enter my mind. I tried to ignore them, and they eventually went away. I kept saying the Rosary, but it felt “empty”. I feel awful about this, and it caused me not to enjoy Mass as much as I usually do. Please pray for me… Thank you!

Praying very hard for you! Don’t beat yourself up, keep persevering and you’ll get through it.

Praying for you.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Prayer to Control Thoughts

Blessed Mother, intercede for this daughter of yours who is being assailed with unholy thoughts by the enemy. Protect her mind and soul and help her persevere in prayer. May the enemy finding no ground to sow these thoughts flee from her. In Jesus’ name we pray.

Thank you all for your replies. I just don’t like the feeling I had when the thoughts came. I hope Jesus knows they weren’t intentional. I’m going to call my priest on my day off (Tuesday) to schedule an appt because I really want to confess this.

Whoa, calm down. Do you struggle with scrupulosity? I do. These unwanted blasphemous thoughts are often a symptom of scrupulosity. The advice I have been given is just to ignore them. St. Francis de Sales says the same thing, by the way. Just wave these thoughts away as you would a fly that is buzzing around you, and don’t pay them any attention. The more you stress about them, the worse they become. When ever I have thoughts like this, I just ask Jesus to deal with this for me, and I turn it over to Him.

Prayers for you. Please talk to a priest. Some saints were tempted that way.

The devil tempts us all at times, it is how we deal with him that matters, you fought a good fight and managed to get rid of the bad thoughts, so don’t beat yourself up be proud that you beat him 🙂

Not a sin for thoughts that just pop in your head. That can be the devil. If you intentionally ponder on these thoughts or encourage them that could be sinful. No harm talking to a priest about it though if you feel the need to.

Praying for you:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless
In Jesus through Mary

I think it was St. John of The Cross who wrote about this - terribly disturbing thoughts during prayer and for priests, even while saying Mass. These thoughts are not chosen and deliberately pondered, hence they should be gently ignored. If not chosen nor deliberately pondered, there is no sin involved - while the whole experience can be decidedly disturbing, still no sin involved. But if overly disturbed by them, to mention in Confession is the best of moves. Will be keeping you in prayer…

Prayer To Control Thoughts

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His Name, help us reject all thoughts and feelings that are contrary to God’s will. Help us choose only thoughts in harmony with the Holy Spirit, and help us cover our thought life with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

AMEN
