My friends, I hope this lenten season is bringing you many graces and further strengthening you faith!
Long story short, my brother married a ukrainian woman about one yar ago. Both are Catholic. His wife got pregnant, and is expected to give birth in July. They planned since the beginning that she would immigrate to our home contry. However, not only is her pregnancy filled with probems and heavy medications, but also adversary and contemt between her, my brother, my mother and her parents.
My brothers wife and her parents are, desipite her circumstance, very harsh and unfair towards my brother, and also to an extent my mother, even though she and my brother told mother that she shouldn’t even “get involved” in the first place. In fact, my mother and I didn’t even get to know that the wife was pregnant after some months time. They believe that, because we live in a economically more stable and richer country, that we sit on a pile of money ready to be handed out, when in fact we only get by. They ask for a whole lot of money for her supposed medicines, which are not only a lot of money for us, but cupious amounts for them. Yet they think it’s still not enough, and are therefore for angry with us because we aren’t providing what they wish. Her father said, when on telephone with my mother, that he is doing the work that my brother should be doing. But in order for my brother do make money in the first place, he need to work in our home country. It’s like a catch-22 situation. No to mention that my mother is not making any grand buck by any strech of the imagination.
We have tried to be humble and helping, even begging for forgivness for any potential omissions we may be gullty of, but they rarely even pick up the phone when we my brother to call them. Her father was very dismissive when my mother called, even if he at least seemed to soften a little bit. Still not a very humble bahviour from him. They refuse to cooperate when my brother comes with suggestions about a potential home to raise his potential future family in. His wife also says that she doesn’t want to go to our countrys embassy in order to get her permament resident permit, saying that my brother should do that. My mother, however, got to know today that *she *has to do it. I am pessimistic that she will actually follow through.
She is also seemingly selfish and materialistic, thinking that my brother should give her everyhting she wants. She doesn’t want to live in our city, because it’s a “cove” (even though it really isn’t, and she has just seen a small part of it) and it isn’t located in the nearest town close to the university (even though the university is ca 20 minutes away from where we live), because whe want’s to “actualize” her self. Why she hasn’t done that already during her ca 30 year old single life already in her home country is beyond me. I am not judging, but she seem very childish for being a future mother of her age. She and her parents also lie about personal things. We know now, looking back in hindsight.
We are afraid that my brothers wife will stay in Ukraine with her parents and abadon my brother, depriving him a holy and healthy family life, and also of his first and possibly only child.
I feel helpless and very diaapointed. They seemed like such a good holy and Catholic family, yet they practically blackmail us like this. I would feel hopeless, but I know that prayers are always heard, and that they can move mountains. This situation is a mess, and I am so sorry that my brother has to go through this. I sincerely hope that you would pray for all of us, that God will help us sort this out. We are unable to do this ourselves.
