Oh dear…it is no wonder you and i are friends, for the love of critters makes us hole! i think it is very good this thread has been kept up. Us critter lovers need prayers and support too. After all God has given us them as gifts to us. So many humans have forgotten or has chosen not to see God in the simple things such as love from a critter. You are so good and kind it shows within the love of your kitties what a truly wonderful person you are. i am so very blessed to know you my dear one. Funny imagine that more than a year has past since God sent me here to this wonderful site. You and i met regarding the smilies request. i was blessed that day as i am now.

PS Still need help in getting those smilies, too blonde ya know ;o)

i shall always keep Otis and all your kitties in my prayers along with you and your momma. This site as brought me such joy and many new friends sigh*.
Aww, you are so lovely - thank you so very much, dear! :hug3: We’ll get to work on your smilies when things calm down a bit here with kitties! 😉

The latest update on Morris and Otis:

Otis is back home; everything in his test results came back GREAT, for the most part (slight bit of infection, slightly low thyroid probably due to stress)… nothing to indicate the kidney is inflamed, or not working 100%, or anything like that. He doesn’t need medication or a special diet, we just need to keep an eye on him.

So he’s back, and after three days of refusing to eat, drink, or use the litter box at the vet, he’s doing all of that with great enthusiasm.

After getting him home and settled in, I went off to get Morris … the shelter lady’s house was filthy beyond description. I mean, cat poo EVERYWHERE, litter boxes filled - literally - to the brim. Poor neurotic Morris, in a dirty house with 50-odd other cats (I didn’t know there were so many in the house!), a huge dog, and a ton of people in and out.

(and not to be an ingrate, because the dear woman is doing SO much for animals, and bless her for being so willing to step in and take Morris when we didn’t know where to turn … but that is just not healthy, for cats nor people!)

After 90 minutes of fruitless searching (and trying not to step in cat poo), the shelter lady finally offered to help - peeked behind her clothes dryer, and there he was. I don’t know how long he’d been there, but he didn’t seem to know how to get out, or perhaps didn’t have the strength. I climbed back there, got him, and whisked him to the vet.

He was dehydrated (he’s had fluids under the skin), and they gave him a dose of the flea-killing medication to be safe. While he was waiting for a cage to be prepared - they wanted him to stay the night for observation - he peed all over the inside of the cage and soaked himself. I can’t imagine how long he’s been holding it, trying to find a clean litter box to pee in. 😦 He was horribly upset and thought I’d be mad at him for that. (he got a hug instead - I had to head home to medicate the rest of the herd and get some dry food to take back for Morris, so I just changed clothes - they were filthy from the shelter anyway)

So now I’ve given him a bath, syringe-fed him a nice big meal (he liked that), and tucked him in the BIG cage at the vet, with nice thick padding and a big soft towel over top of him as a sort of cave to hide in. He was happily sorting out his damp fur under the towel when I left.

I’ll get him again tomorrow morning. 😉 Pray that both he and Otis continue to use the litter boxes!

Oh, my…You have been through it, haven’t you? Still praying for you, and all the wee ones you care for!!

Bless you, dear! Morris is finally home now - hungry, a bit weak, ecstatic to see (and use) clean litter boxes, and darned happy to be home! 🙂

Myrrh is our cat.
I read in a pet book that if you put the clean litter at the back end of the litter box, that is where they will go each time. (they like to mark it with their scent)
Thank You Jesus, for such wondrous creations- these little mini-tiger pets, so soft and so precious. And when it is time to call them back to you, please send angels of comfort to help us mend til one day we can see them once again.:blessyou:

I’m glad you have him back, and that Otis is ok and Cosmo is getting better.
🙂

I’ve been following this thread as I’m a cat rescue person myself - so glad your cat is doing fine!

That lady, however, as your suspicions indicate, is not “doing so much to help animals” but sounds like the classic “hoarder”. If you do a Google search on animal hoarder, dozens of sites will pop up regarding this situation which is slowly being recognised as a mental condition. It isn’t a shelter, it’s a lady who unfortunately needs help, and it’s a sad scenario that animal rescue people see over and over again.

Again, I’m very glad your animals are OK and that it sounds as though they are settling down after being exposed to this environment. I wish to goodness everyone loved their animals as you do. :hug1:

That’s true - each kitty has their own spot in the box where they prefer to go, it’s quite hilarious. grin We dump the entire box(es) every 5 days, scrub them out with bleach, and then put fresh litter in … weirdly, the cats LOVE the smell of the bleach!

Thank you so much for your lovely prayer, dear! 🙂

🙂
Thank you, dear! After an evening with an unhappy tummy, Morris is doing just great - he’s so thrilled to be home, he can’t stop purring. And he’s ecstatic to have nice clean litter boxes to use. 😉 Bless his furry heart, he’s doing just great - and Otis is behaving himself as long as he has the kitten’s litter box to use upstairs during the day (I haul his big rump downstairs to sleep with me during the night, so he doesn’t have an excuse not to use the boxes - they’re downstairs too) - so far, so good! 🙂

I’ve seen that too … we’ve ended up with a few cats from other shelters where the owner was like that, and the cats were just NOT in good shape.

The funny thing with this one, though, is that the actual SHELTER is spotless - the cats are doing great, it’s very clean, and she does adopt a bunch of them out. Apparently it’s temporary that she’s got so many in her actual HOUSE - she had to move from one home/shelter to another in a hurry, before the shelter building was entirely ready for feline habitation, so she moved cats from house to shelter in stages (as far as I know). Most of the cats in the house are supposed to end up in the shelter, she just says she needs the volunteers to move them. I’m not quite sure I understand why it’d be a big deal to move even 5 cats a day from the house to the shelter.

She evidently doesn’t have time to clean her house - there are volunteers to clean the shelter itself, and apparently someone’s moving into the house soon, and will clean it in exchange for living there. They are going to panic when they see what they’ve got themselves into, I think …

Aww, bless you … thank you, dear! I’m not feeling like a very good kitty mum after letting poor Morris go there (had I see what the house was really like - I’d only seen the front room - I wouldn’t have considered it an option), but bless him, he forgives me, and I’ll make it up to the dear little guy.

:hug1: Thank you so much for making me feel better. 🙂

Good, I’m glad he’s improving. I know how it is to have to take measures to discourage your pets from doing their business in bad places. I had to completely housebreak Fred when I aopted him, and he still forgets and has some accidents in the house from time to time. He’s making progress, though. At least now when he does it, he gets this big “I’m sorry” look on his face. Not long ago, he would just squat, do his business, and then merrily be on his way. 😃

HOWL! It makes it easier to figure out SOMETHING is up if they at least have the good manners to look guilty, doesn’t it? 😃

Now, do dogs pee in naughty places just to make a point and be cranky (like cats sometimes will), or is it really a case of ‘oops, couldn’t hold it’ or ‘sorry, I forgot’? I seem to recall that ‘behavioural’ piddling is more of a cat thing, is that true?

You give your Fred a hug from me … I just love that name. laughing

Sometimes, it’s just a matter of forgetting. Sometimes, though, it’s a matter of revenge. Zach has been known to urinate in the house when he knows good and well that he isn’t supposed to do so. He does it sometimes if he feels that Fred or Dolly is getting too much attention. Fred, though, does it just because he forgets sometimes.

Consider your hug passed on. 😃

laughing Zach sounds like a terror! 😃 I knew it must be forgetfulness with Fred … how could a Fred do such a thing on purpose? 😉

May the Lord God Almighty grant Cosmo the Strength and endurance he needs for a fast and healthy recovery. We beg this in Jesus name. amen.👍

Thank you, dear! 🙂 He’s getting there - the vision still isn’t back in the one eye, but he’s yahooing around (with the occasional stumble) with a lot more energy than he had for months before his stroke, so we’re very pleased!

Zach can be, mostly when he feels like he isn’t getting the proper amount of attention. He’s actually a lot calmer than Dolly and Fred, though. They’re the real handfulls. I think they’re both ADHD.

I’m glad to hear that Cosmo is improving.Hopefully he’ll regain his sight and whatever else was effected.👍

That’s a beagle thing, I think. grinning
