The latest update:
We actually have an improvement tonight!!!
Cosmo IS walking better, for the first time since he had his stroke. He still has a long way to go, but there’s obviously more going on in that wee brain than there had been.
The ghastly, swollen, oozing paw on the other side is looking slightly smaller, and slightly less … icky than yesterday. Still no mouth sores, so it appears he doesn’t have calicivirus.
He feels some pain on the ‘bad’ side when I don’t hold him carefully, so as depressing as it sounds, that’s an improvement too.
He made a friend at the vet today that knows how to do some sort of animal massage … she seemed to be barely touching him on his bad side, but you could see him responding - he relaxed and smiled, and when she did it around the ear on the affected side, the ear twitched in response - so he felt it. That’s a huge improvement right there.
He hadn’t wanted to eat on his own this morning (so he was force-fed), but ate a HUGE dinner from my hand while I was there, and I syringed quite a lot of water into him - he liked that. I left him beaming away, sprawled out in a clean bed, ready for a long nap.
Bless you all for your prayers, and please continue them - my little guy is finally getting better!

Without going into the debate as to whether or not the little furry creatures we love so much have souls or not…I will keep Cosmo in my thoughts.
Many times I think (actually know) that I prefer the company of animals to people. At least you know what you’re getting with them…often times it isn’t so simple with people.
Nothing says contentment like a purring ***** cat curled up in your lap. Hope things work out for Cosmo.

I’m just overwhelmed that so many people would take the time to be so … lovely about my little Cosmo! I’m used to the ‘snort It’s just a cat’ attitude … this is just so kind of everyone!Bless you too!
It’s been many months since Cosmo purred (I think perhaps he had an earlier stroke that affected his ability to purr, because he stopped purring right around the time he started behaving strangely and wouldn’t drink water), but he does occasionally vibrate silently when he’s happy. I think the “it’s just a cat” attitude is awful. As for Cosmo, it does sound to me that maybe he had a mild stroke a few months ago. I hope he’ll be silently vibrating for many years to come!
Or better yet, I hope he gets his purr back!

Today’s update:
Cosmo is walking so much better today! At the worst, it looked like a nervous-cat slink (what you’d expect to see if you plunked Kitty on the floor at the vet’s), and sometimes he walked upright quite nicely - the odd little sideways skid of paws on the bad side, but still, mightily impressive.
His vision hasn’t returned yet, so he’s banging into things on his bad side, but that might come too - and if not, I would imagine he’ll eventually get used to seeing the world through one eye.
The puffy, crusty paw is still quite puffy, but the rawness of the skin is healing nicely with the nightly washing. He’s still not happy about wearing the cone on his head (and he’s losing a lot of fur where it rubs), but he’s being surprisingly cheerful about it all. Seems quite interested in the noises the dogs make - he doesn’t cower, just cranes his little neck to look.
DEFINITELY enjoying his cuddles! And he’s trying to eat on his own, although the cone presents quite an impediment when he’s already dealing with limited vision. Still, the little dear is really giving it the old college try, and I’m proud of him.
Please keep the little mite in your prayers - at this rate, maybe we can have him home for Christmas!
