She is 17, blind and deaf. I also believe that she has bloat. She had her third stroke two weeks ago. She is alert and eating but has trouble breathing after eating. I have tried several times to take her to put her to sleep but I cant. Does that make a bad person? We have a very special connection and I believe she is holding on for me. I have told her that it is ok to let go. My heart is in pieces. I am asking you all to pray and ask St. Francis to come get her while she sleeps.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Good St. Francis, you love all of God’s creatures. To you they are your brothers and sisters. Help us to follow your example of treating every living thing with kindness. St. Francis, Patron Saint of animals, watch over char123’s ailing dog. Pray to the Lord that He will give this pet an easy death. Amen.

And Char, if you can muster your strength, putting your pet down when he/she is in pain is a great gift. I’ve had to do it. It’s not easy.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Hi char123,

I am so very sorry that your poor dog is so very ill. 😦

I understand that heart break and sadness.

Prayers said for you.

No, it doesn’t make you a bad person for wanting to have her with you. It indicates how much you love her. It’s human nature.

However, it’s a sad decision we all have to face when it comes to having to take them to the vet at some point when they are suffering in order to let them go, even though we don’t want to do it.

May God bless you during this sad and difficult time.

char, I know how hard this is. Exactly one month ago, I sent my little kitty Peaches back to her Creator. She had chronic kidney disease, cancer and she was blind. Then she went into heart failure. She was no longer happy and pain-free. We knew it was her time. In your heart, you know it is your pup’s time too. We love our pets, but part of that love is saying goodbye when their time in this world is done. Remember our pets have souls, and I happen to believe that they go to Heaven after they die. I really feel for you. Here is a prayer that our vet let us say before Peaches’ departure.

Saying Goodbye to a Dying Pet

In the name of God the Father,
Who created you and all the animals;
in the name of Jesus the Son,
Who spoke of you in parables and stories; and
in the name of the Holy Spirit,
in Whom every creature lives, moves, and has their being,
go now in peace, dear friend.

May you find rest near refreshing waters,
may you lie in cool, green pastures,
and may you warm yourself under the sun that never sets.

You have been my constant companion,
my shadow and confidante,
my comfort and playmate.
You filled my days with life and brought me endless joy.
For this I give thanks to God Who gave you to me.

Now return to your Maker Who eagerly waits for you
as you waited for me at the end of each day.

In the Father’s arms, let there be no more pain.
Let there be no more suffering.
Let there be only light as it was on the day God created you.

For our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made Heaven and earth.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, now and forever. Amen.

Praying to St. Francis for your pet’s intentions.

Adding my prayers to St. Francis for you and your pet…:hug1:

Be strong when your faithful friend cannot. I kept waiting for my beloved hound to let me know when he was ready, until I realized that he never would - he would suffer just to be with me. Dogs love us to the end and sometimes we have to know when it is the end. It is a horrible, hard decision, but do what you know is right in your heart. You will be reunited one day.

O beloved Saint Francis, gentle and poor, your obedience to God and your simple, deep love for all God’s creatures led you to the heights of heavenly perfection and turned many hearts to follow God’s will. Now, in our day, pray also for us, in our ministry to the many who come here searching for peace and intercede for us as we come before the Lord with our special requests.

Bless Char and her beloved friend with peace.

O blessed Saint of God, from your throne among the hosts of heaven present our petitions before our faithful Lord. May your prayers on our behalf be heard and may God grant us the grace to lead good and faithful lives. Amen.

Saint Francis of Assisi,
Pray for us. Amen. †
