I love my husband dearly but I did not honor him in ways that a wife should and now I have caused him to believe that getting divorce is the only way he can be happy.

I have spent months of reflecting upon my own actions. I have remorse over not seeing what he kept trying to warn me about. When I have told him this time it will be different, he does not believe me. I know in my heart that it would be different because this time, I realize it is “me” that needed to change. In the past, I put us through “therapy” hoping HE would change. I felt “I” was right all along. Unfortunately, this time I have broke the camel’s back. It took this for me to recognize just how wrong I have been.

I ask that you please pray that someday his heart will soften so that I can express to him all the days of my life just how much I love him; even if he doesn’t return to me.

Dear Sonia,

My heart breaks for you. I am in a similar predicament with my wife of nine years and our precious boys (aged 5 and almost 8). I will pray for you. I’ll add the saving of your marriage to one of my Chaplets of Divine Mercy and also the Chaplet of St. Michael. All I can say is to change what is unjust now so you have no regrets. That’s where I am. For years now I’ve used counselling to improve myself and be a good husband, demanding absolutely nothing of her. It must have been too little too late because she’s informed me that she’s leaving. But I sincerely don’t have any recent regrets. Only that I didn’t give 100% all along. But now I’m fighting for our marriage (as are you for yours), and as long as you give 100%, you at least won’t have regrets.

The pain is devastating, I feel it now in my marriage, and I am so sorry for what you are going through. If it weren’t for my boys I’d love to go to sleep and never wake up, and I’ll bet you feel similarly. Just have faith and hope. I’ll pray for you. Your children and probably many family members love you very much. Soak it in and give it back with all you’ve got.
