Please pray for my mom who is battling an alcohol problem. She is in detox right now and the family hopes she will go to a treatment program after that. We talked about faith and Jesus for the first time yesterday. I feel so ashamed that I haven’t preached the Gospel to her till now, but the future looks a little brighter for us now that I know she is open to talking about Jesus.

Heavenly Father, bless Rolypoly’s mother with great fortitude, strength, and all graces to follow You in joy now and forever. Hear Rolypoly’s intentions on this and all matters in accord with Your will. Mary, pray with us. Amen. :gopray2:

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in ora mortis nostrae, Amen! :signofcross:

***O glorious Saint Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and counsel mankind, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. So powerful are you in obtaining every need of body and soul our Holy Mother Church proclaims you a “Prodigy of Miracles . . . the Greatest Saint of Modern Times.” Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good on earth . . . of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Henceforth, dear Little Flower, I will fulfill your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will never cease to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen. ***

St. Peter, you knew the temptations of alcoholism and it’s grip it holds on the body and soul of it’s sufferer. Saint Peter pray for us.
PRAYER OF ST. GREGORY THE GREAT
Acclaim To The Suffering Christ
O Lord, You received affronts
without number from Your blasphemers,
yet each day You free captive souls
from the grip of the ancient enemy.

You did not avert Your face
from the spittle of perfidy,
yet You wash souls in saving waters.

You accepted Your scourging without murmur,
yet through your meditation
You deliver us from endless chastisements.

You endured ill-treatment of all kinds,
yet You want to give us a share
in the choirs of angels in glory everlasting.

You did not refuse to be crowned with thorns,
yet You save us from the wounds of sin.

In your thirst You accepted the bitterness of gall,
yet You prepare Yourself to fill us with eternal delights.

You kept silence under the derisive homage
rendered You by Your executioners,
yet You petition the Father for us
although You are his equal in Divinity.

You came to taste death,
yet You were the Life
and had come to bring it to the dead.

Amen.

Praying that your mom overcomes her addiction to alcohol and finds the proper support …

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Lord Jesus,You said,
“I have come to set the captives free.”
We are captive and need Your healing touch.
Free us, Lord, from our addictions,
so that we will be:
…free from the cares and worries that stifle our happiness;
…free from sins that cling to us, and to which we cling;
…free from all compulsive behavior
that prevents us from becoming what You, Lord,
have planned for us.
Bring us, loving Savior,
to the experience of abundan tlife
which You promised.
Amen

Dear Roly,

Please know that you and your Mom are in my prayers. I am a recovering alcoholic. I joined Alcoholic Anonymous about three years ago and I have been sober for about two and 1/2 years. AA is a wonderful organization and it has helped me in so many ways. But the real miracle of all… is that it brought me back to God and His Church. It’s 12-step program of recovery is a beautiful program of spirituality and action.

I do not know if you are familiar with Al-Anon. It is for the families of alcoholics. It will help you understand the disease and it offers support from others who have been where you are and who know what you are going thru.

Please let me know if you need more information about AA or Al-Anon.

Peace and love…

Roly,

Please know that I will keep your Mom in my prayers. There are few things worse than being in the grip of an addiction; you can’t picture life without it. But with God’s help and that of His Blessed Mother, it CAN be done.

It is important that your Mother, once she gets out of detox, go to meetings and become as active in AA as she can. And she has to WANT to stop drinking. If she doesn’t, and if she went into detox on an intervention or to please others, she’ll have a rough time.

Pray to Ven. Matt Talbot for her. And Our Lady will help too.

God bless you and all of your family!

Thanks again for all the prayers. I thought I should post an update: My mom decided to go on to treatment. She is doing much better for the time being, but she knows that she has the same pressures waiting for her when she gets out. I will most likely be participating in a program at the treatment facility which will educate me about alcoholism and assist my mom in her recovery process. My mom told me she is determined to never drink again. She also said she would like to go to Mass with me when I invited her. Please continue to pray for her healing from this and for her conversion in God’s time. God bless you all.
