(So much for a break. CAF, I just can’t quit you.

I’ve posted a little bit about my family of origin in the past, including troubles with my youngest sister. I just found out she is not going to graduate from college (she should have this May). She goes to the same college I did - a prestigious small private liberal arts college. She won’t be able to return for additional time because her scholarship only covers four years. So she’s going to leave, with a seriously unimpressive GPA, without a degree, but with all the debt her scholarship didn’t cover. She has no ambitions for any kind of job, has no idea what she wants to do, and in all likelihood is going to return home to my parents and bum off them for who knows how long.
I’m incredibly disappointed in her. She’s not as driven or as ambitious as I am (I’m the oldest, she’s the youngest, I think that plays a role here) but she’s still incredibly bright and her major was in a field where she could have snapped up a job easily in the area where I live, especially with a degree from our school, provided she had at least an average GPA. It kills me that she’s spent four years doing very little to take advantage of that great opportunity.
My mom told me last night she feels badly that she didn’t push my sister more a couple of years ago, and I can see why she said that, but I think out of guilt it’s going to be very tempting to enable my sister drifting aimlessly for a long while. This is the same sister who cannot drive and has poor social skills.
Please pray for her, and for my parents, and for me to find some peace. I know it is not my responsibility but I still struggle with feelings of guilt. I don’t know what on earth I could have done to avoid this from happening, because my sister’s choices are hers, but the feeling is still there. I will be praying for my parents to find a way that is kind and loving to my sister but not enabling.
