I have not been able to sleep lately and am up all night. This makes me tired all day and unable to accomplish much of anything. I appreciate the prayers. If anyone knows a Saint to pray to for this that would also be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Some tricks that might help are (I also have insomnia): No electronics after 9pm, Non-Caffeinated Night time teas, Magnesium (can interact with many different medications, and too much of it can cause serious health issues), the Rosary. 2 of my kids have insomnia as well and the Rosary is great taking things off their minds.

I relate to sleepless nights so you definitely have my sympathy. I heard that St-Dymphna is good for sleep issues. Can’t say she help me with those, but she definitely helped me in other ways 🙂

Thank you for the advice, I will look into her. 🙂

Hi jenna,

I am sorry that you are having trouble sleeping. I do, too. I can relate, too.

Prayers said for you, so that you can sleep.

Sometimes what I try and do to fall asleep is to literally count backwards from one hundred, as that distracts my mind and keeps it occupied, and before I know it, I’m asleep.

Here is a link to a lovely prayer by St. Alphonsus Ligouri:

I pray Rosary when I cannot sleep, and I fell asleep very quickly. Mary give us peace and clam, take out our worry in mind. 🙂

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may god rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon jenna1983 in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

The one thing I learned towards the end of my years of insomnia, is to get up and do something when you can’t sleep. Don’t lay there for hours upon hours vainly trying to relax and fall asleep. Just get up and do chores, read, etc. If your problem persists, see your doctor. There are medications to take besides ambien and the like that are not so controversial or dangerous. St. Dymphna is the patron saint of insomnia, which is simply lumped into mental and nervous illnesses, but I would say the night office and a prayer to your guardian angel to help you sleep.

Prayer in a Time of Sleeplessness

Lord Jesus Christ, During Your earthly sojourn You went sleepness at times and spent whole nights in prayer. But there were many other times when You slept. I cannot seem to get to sleep these nights and I cannot even pray.
Please help me cure this sickness, Lord, for I desperately need sleep to do my work and to behanve as a pleasant human being as well as to act in a christian manner. Enable me to get a goods nights sleep, or at least to spend my time in prayer with You. Thank You, Lord.
Amen.
