Thank you, everyone, for your continuing prayers. They are most appreciated.

They tell me I should be getting over this more by now, that I shouldn’t cry so easily anymore.

It is what happened at the very end that has me so upset. I had no (name removed by moderator)ut at all into his treatment. He and his wife were in charge of that. When we arrived on the Monday evening after being told he was going downhill quickly, we had a couple minutes with him before they sent us out of his room so they could catheterize him. When we were allowed back in, he was in a coma. I’m sure it was a drug induced coma; that the visiting nurse added something to his medications to keep him from regaining consciousness. However, they did not insert an IV to give him fluids, so basically, he was put into a coma and dehydrated to death. He fought so hard to stay alive. It took until Thursday morning for him to succumb.

He suffered every minute of it. There was enough medication to keep him from communicating, but not enough to deal with the pain. You could see the agony on his face, even though they claimed he was feeling no pain.

Even though he was dying already, they killed him and it wasn’t merciful at all.

The grief hasn’t gotten any better. I still feel like someone has reached in through my gut and is tearing my heart out. I still feel a physical pain when I think on it. I still wake in the morning, crying. The fact that he died was bad enough, but the thought that he was killed, most unmercifully, is worse.

The worst is that he did not return to the Sacraments before he died. Of all of my prayers, I wanted this most of all. I did not think he would get a miracle cure, but I wanted that spiritual healing; I wanted him to have a Happy Death, reconciled with God, and it did not happen.

Instead, he was put to death, dehydrated and in pain, struggling for every breath and there was absolutely nothing I could do but watch helplessly. Even my prayers did nothing. It was all I had, and they did nothing, nothing at all.

They tell me I should just Trust God that he was saved but how can I when he refused to return to the Sacraments? How could he, facing certain imminent death, not reconcile himself?

I wanted eternal life for my son, but how can I hope when he refused to return to the Church?
 
Dear Linda Marie my heart goes out to you xo As a mother I empathise with your pain.
The death of a child is the most painful to bear.
You suffered an absolutely awful time.It is completely natural for you to feel so concerned but my faith tells me he is safe with God now.

You don’t ever get over their loss but in time and with God’s help we come to acceptance and peace. Those who tell you that you should be getting over this by now are very mistaken.

The grieving process takes time and emotions involved are deep.Allow yourself time and allow us to pray with you for your son to have eternal life and for you in your bereavement.

God alone knows and understands our every thought. He knows your son and He loves him.
Remember he will have the opportunity of purification in purgatory.

I myself hold on to this when I worry for my children’s salvation.

God bless you and bring you peace and calm so you may be comforted in your faith that your son is safe in the loving arms of Our Blessed Lord.
