My friends I have had to switch off my television tonight in sheer despair at the maelstrom of vilification and hate raining down on the The Church in Ireland. As you know reports of foulnesses committed against hundreds of children are now come to light and good priests as well as evil are under attack.

Scores of devient clergy, mostly homosexual but on occasion heterosexual as well have been abusing children with the knowledge of bishops who did nothing to stop this sodomy and rape of hundreds of innocent Irish boys and some girls as well. . We hear stories of crucifixes being used to rape and bugger children…obscenities crying out to The Lord for vengeance, for millstones around pervert necks.

I ask you to remember Ireland and the Irish Church in your prayers. So long a pillar on which the Church was built, so long a light in the darkness, so long a provider of missionaries to the world the Irish Church is in agonised chaos and is now in need of the help it has given for so long. Pray for the Church in Ireland. it is in the grip of shattering attacks and is on its knees

Hi Above,

Many people in the world are praying right now for Ireland. I mentioned to another member on here in a different topic that these kinds of horrendously evil acts infuriate virtually everyone and as a result sell a lot of newspapers and turn routine nightly news reports into compelling human drama that some can’t pry themselves away from.

Just remember that the media is only interested in profit, and that goes up when they can serve up stories day in and day out, ever-getting-worse in the gory details. It takes a while for the compulsion to those stories to die down. Until that time, any chance the media has to poke a stick in the eye of an already hurting Church, count on them doing so.

I understand, many do, about reaching that saturation point where you sort of wish everyone would just shut up about the whole thing, let people digest what they have, and try to rebuild. But the world isn’t that nice sometimes.

Sometimes it takes people ending up on their knees to regain God’s favor when they’ve lost it. God will never stop loving any of us, but He seems to have a threshold level of shenanigans that He will allow to go on in His Church. Exceed it and He will act against that evil, perhaps exposing it in all it’s sorry lack of splendor so those elements responsible can, like chaff, be separated from the wheat.

Healing will come. It will just take some time.

The anger at the blatent hyporacisy of the Irish Catholic Church has much to do with it. Sodomy is one of the four sins that cries to Heaven.:bighanky:

The church knowingly covered it up,

What were they thinking of?:crying:

The church is now trying to wiggle out of having the guilty religious go to criminal trial. The church is trying to wiggle out of financial restitution. This is fueling the nager.

I do pray for the Irish Church…
  1. That they will have the courage to turn over all offfending religious to civil authority. This includeds all those involved in the cover up.
  2. That they will have the courage to make a proper financial restitution to those whose lives were ruined
The Church is supposed to stand for Justice, so let it begin with us. Yes, it will hurt. Hurt deeply. But without admission of guilt and restitution, true healing cannot begin

In all fairness, if Priests never committed these horrific acts in the first place, the media wouldn’t be able to report on them. The media’s job is to report the news, whether or not you think its fair. Most of the time the people who’ve been abused come to the press with their stories. Blaming the press is nothing more then a cop-out. I think the bad PR should be solely blamed on the those who are responsible for the acts occurring in the first place.

Unfair treatment… cover ups happen just as frequently, if not more frequently, at various levels of Protestant denominations, schools, etc, but when do we ever hear about those with such passion? Rarely…

In light of these shockingly horrific revelations from the Irish reports, on top of the massive American scandal, with echoes in Canada, Australia and elsewhere… I fear we are witnessing, and will witness for decades to come, an awful new wave of anti-clericalism sweeping the world. Moral corruption - real or alleged - of clergy and religious has always been a motivating force of anti-clerical movements, right from the Reformation through the Enlightenment into Modern times.

Lord have mercy! The worst enemies of Mother Church are those who profess to serve her. But to be guilty of the worst crimes? Those whose lives were meant to be dedicated to the work of the Holy Spirit, corrupted and debased to such an evil extent as to be a complete indulgence in all that Our Lord laboured to redeem us from? Worse than the worst that the pagan world was guilty of: these sins are compounded by their inherent apostasy; utter rejection of Christ. How, why? I can’t even begin to comprehend the scale of this treachery.
Lord, have mercy.

I am Irish and perhaps have some insight into the answers to the questions you raise.

Many many Irish clerics in the period in question had no vocation. Joining the Church was often in reality almost a family businessand very often younger sons and unmarried doughters were in orders without real vocation. One blessing of the decline in the Church’s position in Ireland is that vocations now are in spite of rather than because of family and social pressure.

Much if not most of the abuse in Ireland was also not paedophile as such but rather the abuse of post pubescent boys. Most of the abuse was homosexual. There was far too much nodding and winking going on in respect of improper clerical homosexuality. The Holy Father is acting and has acted to deal with this. I emphasise I am NOT saying all or most homosexuals are abusive but the fact is that most of the abuse in ireland was by abusive homosexuals with no real vocation hiding under the clerical collar.

I have to disagree with you; unless the various denominations are covering it up, much like the Roman Catholic Church did until it was discovered and if they are covering up instances of abuse, it’ll come to light and they’ll publicize it just as they did with the RCC.
