Please pray for the soul of a friend

I just discovered today that my high school best friend passed away in June from cancer. We were not in touch when this occurred and info online is very scanty (no obituary, FindaGrave, etc) but I have found enough announcement of her death on social media to know that she did die and on which date.

She and I had not been in touch for many years. I had tried several times to reach out to her in the past but she did not seem interested in resuming the friendship even though we had not had a fight or anything. It may have been a case of just lives going in different directions, as she was married with children and a family of her own, had I believe converted to another faith, and we each were active in groups for our particular divergent interests and making most of our friends there. In any event, I’m sad over it although the last time I saw her in person or spoke to her was at the time of my wedding over 20 years ago. I have had an odd feeling the last couple years that something wasn’t quite right with her although I did not know or think she was ill.

Anyway, prayers please, as she left a husband of over 20 years and two children.

Eternal rest grant unto my friend, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
And may God comfort her loved ones and wipe every tear from their eyes, until they meet again.

Eternal rest grant unto them,
O Lord, and let perpetual light
shine upon them. May the souls
of all the faithful departed, through
Amen

Byzantine Catholic Prayer for the Deceased

O Lord, grant rest to the soul of Your departed
servant in a place of light, a place of green pasture,
a place of refreshment, where all pain, sorrow, and
sighs have fled away. As a good God Who loves
humankind, forgive every sin committed by her, in
word, deed, or thought. In Jesus’ name, amen

Prayer to the Blessed Mother in a Time of Bereavement

O sweet Mother Mary, you knew the sadness
of mourning those your heart loved most:
Jesus, your Son, and Joseph, your devoted
spouse. Please pray for all affected in this
time of loss. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Pai nosso que estais no céu
santificado seja o Vosso nome
venha a nós o vosso reino
seja feita a Vossa vontade
assim na terra como no céu
o pão nosso de cada dia nos dai hoje
perdoai-nos as nossas ofensas
assim como nós perdoa-mos a quem nos tenha ofendido
e não nos deixeis cair em tentação
mas livrai-nos do mal

Avé Maria cheia de graça
o Senhor é convosco
bem dita soís vós entre as mulheres
e bem dita é o fruto do vosso ventre Jesus
Santa Maria Mãe de Deus
rogai por nós pecadores
agora e na hora da nossa morte

Glória ao pai, e ao Filho, e ao Espírito Santo
como era no princípio, agora e sempre.

Amén
