Dennis, your very desire to pray is itself a prayer, and so pleasing to God!
When we are in a dry state, it is naturally more difficult to pray. It helps to carry a rosary or small cross or crucifix or even a picture of Jesus or Mary with you; or keep it in your work or study area. When you look at it, try to remember to say, “My Jesus, I love you.” Or, whatever prayer you might prefer.
All your worries can become opportunities to pray. Whenever your are worried about something, tell Jesus about it and ask for His help. Remember, “the very hairs of your head are numbered.” He cares about everything that affects you.
Just keep making little efforts. You don’t have to spend long periods in formal prayer, especially during these dry times.
One of the best things to do is go to Church, or an Adoration chapel if possible, and just sit there quietly, close your eyes and let Jesus love you. You don’t have to say anything. Just be with Him.
As long as you have the desire to pray, you are in a good place. Keep trying, and you will bring much joy to Jesus.
I have been through times such as you describe in my own life – often when I was struggling with lots of stress or work etc. God understands.
A good priest told me that God doesn’t look at us just in “the moment,” but sees all of our life at once, and sees the times we did pray much, as well as the times when prayer was a struggle.
Never lose faith in His Love for you. You will “make it.” God’s Merciful Love surrounds you at every moment. He loves you so much! Say often: Jesus, I trust in You.
As you asked in your post, I will pray for you too.
