Please Pray That My Car Is Not Seriously Tore Up

Hello everyone. Could you all please pray that my car is not seriously torn up? I was turning onto another road this morning and couldn’t see out my windows very well and I hit a curb pretty hard bending the rim on my wheel. My Grandpa was able to straighten out the rim somewhat with a hammer and it is finally holding air again but the car is slightly “wobbly” now. What I mean is that it kind of wobbles slightly when I drive it. My Grandpa is going to check it out further when we get some more warmer weather but not until then. This means that I cannot go out of town and the only places where confession is regularly offered is out of town. I can go to Mass here in town and can ask my priest here in town to hear my confession but I prefer to go to my normal confessor. So could you all please pray that it is not something serious like a broken tie rod or something? Hopefully it is nothing more than the rim needing to be straightened out more or a broken belt in my tire.

I will pray about your car. You might need another alingment, If you can’t wait till your grandpa looks at the car take the car to a mechanic or someone else you trust to look at the car. Sometimes work on your car need a lot of work, so the sooner you know what is wrong the sooner you can fix it. I hope that everything turns for the best and not costly.

Thank you everyone. I, unfortunately, have bad news. My steering wheel has been popping when I turn the wheel sharply and now my Grandpa thinks it might be something serious like one of the ball bearings being about to go out. Hopefully it is just something loose or something like that.

For goodness sakes, don’t drive it if it’s no safe. Hopefully you can get it looked at soon…
 
Hello Holly…this must be a worry for you that it looks like possibly some serious repair work ahead. Will be keeping this in daily prayer and hoping it will not be as serious as perhaps thought…barb

Don’t worry. I am only driving it within town (its a small town) and my Grandpa said that that was okay to do. He used to own a break and alignment shop so he knows about this sort of thing. 😉

Thank you for your prayers Barb. But yes, it looks like it could require some serious repair work. I’m not sure how I’ll make it to Mass this weekend. 😦 Plus, we are forecasted to get a lot of snow starting tonight and that will make it that much harder to go to Mass. I suppose the situation kind of takes away the obligation this weekend right?

Unfortunately, my Grandpa probably will not be able to look at my car this weekend due to a bad snowstorm we are currently having. 😦

Have you replaced the rim? Have you had the allignment checked?

Try doing those and let us know what the verdict is… Because, what you’re describing could be caused by that, but if not handled promptly, it will get worse, fast.

I still wouldn’t drive it if I didn’t have to - The last time I did number on my car and drove it, I took a $2,800 job and made it into a $4,000 job (auto accident with late model BMW a year ago). I’m for handling it now if that’s at all possible - I learned the hard way.

I’m sorry to hear about the serious repair work - That’s never fun. I figured one or more suspension bits were probably “goners” when you described the steering wheel being yanked from your hands (that’s what happened while I was driving the BMW after the accident - although mine was while I was driving the car STRAIGHT)

Holly, what mitigates the obligation to attend Sunday Mass isn’t not having the car (you’d still be obligated to walk, use a bike or get a ride with a fellow parishioner, or even attend with your grandfather). What provides the mitigation is the snowstorm, and that only if it is forecasted to arrive before the end of the Sat. Vigil Mass and stay until Sunday evening and only if the snowstorm would keep you from going to work, attending school, shopping or doing something else you really wanted to do if it came during the week…

…So, If the Church is within walking or biking distance, or if you can get a ride to church with someone else who is going to Mass (any Mass), and the snowstorm isn’t severe enough to shut down the rest of the town’s activities (shopping, work, sports, etc.), you’re still obligated to go.

I would suggest you give the Rectory a call and see if they have a parish directory they could share with you - So you could get a ride. Otherwise, you’ll be cooped up thinking about the car and how much money it’s going to cost…

I wouldn’t wish that on anyone I cared for. So, find some way, any way, to get to Mass - It really will do you some good.
