I’m a security officer–21 years in the business, 18 of it as an armed officer. Never had to unholster my weapon to deal with a person. Last night was a first. Guy acting very strangely at my current assignment, was told repeatedly to leave, I finally had to escort him from the premises. He took a meandering route throughout the property rather than leaving by the most direct way, and I had the manager call the local cops when it was obvious he was leading me on a merry chase.

He finally tried to evade me by ducking between two vehicles, then came running back towards me. I didn’t know if he had a shiv or some other weapon, but I knew I wasn’t going to be the one to get hurt if I could help it. I unholstered, pointed, ordered him to stop several times, and retreated. There was a moment when I just knew he was going to make me pull the trigger. When we both cleared the tight space between the two vehicles, however, he backed off and went in a direction away from me and towards the nearest road. The cops showed up, did a pedigree on him, and since his only real violation was misdemeanor trespass, they let him go with a warning that he’s banned from the property.

Turns out he was HIV-positive. My best guess is he’s a male prostitute, though the cops didn’t volunteer that much to me. Probably not looking forward to a slow miserable death in a hospital and was hoping for a suicide-by-security-guard end instead. Running directly towards a guy with a loaded weapon and limited means of retreat could’ve accomplished that. He’s lucky I gave him a couple extra seconds to quit coming my way.
Unfortunately he showed up on the property again, if one of the employees who witnessed the original incident was correct. We–I, the employee, and the local police spent awhile looking for him again, without success. The guy’s home was quite a ways from where I’m assigned, and the cops originally directed him to the nearest interstate and told him to get hence and never return. Don’t know if he stayed around because he wanted to panhandle; or to prostitute himself; or if he was hoping that next time I’d pull the trigger on him. I know he’s in serious need of some help. I prayed for him all the way home. Please join me in prayer for him. Thanks!

Wow - close. You must still be shaken. I will pray for your safety and clear headed judgment.

Praying for him…

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

My husband (also an armed Security Officer) and I both are praying for you and him.

God bless and protect you! Thank God you didn’t have to take that man’s life… it’s a horrible thing to recover from… I ask the intercession of Servant of God John Paul II that you never are put in this type of situation again.

Praying for both of you. You’re probably only now recouping from this. Every person is precious in God’s eyes, no matter what they have done.

POLICEMAN’s Prayer To ST. Michael

St. Michael, Heaven’s glorious Commissioner of Police and those who Serve and Protect,

who once so neatly and successfully cleared GOD’s premises of all it’s undesireables,

look with kindly and professional eye on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the policeman’s lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the Devil, and your Angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our nightsticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of GOD as we have been to guard the city of men.

Dear Lord, be with me when I am on duty this day and every day.

Let me be kindly to the old, and to the young be strong; but let me triumph over those whose acts are cruel or wrong.

Lord, when my own last summons comes and I stand in your court, may my rest with you be long and my punishment be short.

AMEN…
