I just heard about these two within the last couple of days, and both sound worthwhile:
**
Save the Storks: ** I heard about this one via LiveAction. StS gives free sonograms to mothers outside the entrances to abortion clinics, so that they can see a real-time image of their baby … one last chance before they make the irrevocable decision to end their child’s life.

Their specially-equipped vans are small enough to park in standard metered parking spaces, so they are able to get very close to the clinics for maximum impact! 👍

Here is their website: savethestorks.com/

Shoes for Orphan Souls: Heard about this one on K-LOVE today. They distribute shoes around the world, and you can even take a trip with them to distribute the shoes. 😃

Here’s a neat story from their site:

I would like to donate money to help people. Please recommend me online charities in which all or the overwhelming majority of my donations will be used to help people. Please recommend me sites that are relatively safe to give out credit card information on. I’ve been hearing about scam charities out there so I need to find a charity that is definitely legitimate.

There are a ton of fantastic charities out there, and unfortunately, a few that are not in compliance with Catholic moral teaching. I would suggest thinking about the kind of people you wish to help and what you are personally passionate about. Then, you can find some charities in that area that you can consider.

Our family donates to a few, but they are things which are particularly meaningful to us. Of course, you should also do some checking as to their legitimacy and their orthodoxy, but you can probably get that info pretty easily here on CAF with a few quick questions.

Hopefully without coming across like I am tooting my own horn, here are a few that we donate to currently, have donated to in the past, or have volunteered with:
If you put some time in and think about the kind of work you wish to support, either financially or with your time and talent, I think you will see that there are plenty of good options out there for someone who wishes to do some good in the world and also remain faithful to the Church at the same time.

Best regards,

It’s going to be tough selecting charities. Thanks for all the recommendations everyone!

God bless you all!

Good for you! You can ask your diocese or parish priest for advice. The Catholic Missions of which there are many, are Catholic sponsored, and in dire need of funds for wells and sanitary systems in villages, as well as schools and nutritional meals for the young.

There is one up North, I think it’s the Oblates that run these, and they provide among the Inuit I think. They are always short funded and need help. Even their pamphlets are hardly ever seen anymore due to low funding. Sorry I can’t recall their contact and that’s all I have to go on.

Incidentally, how about a visit to the Vocation section, in particular the Franciscans?. 🙂

Archdiocese for Military Services

You know those Catholic priests in combat zones or vet hospitals providing support and the sacraments for our troops? Well, they are an archdiocese unto themselves. Even though they are serving in the military, risking their lives, AMS gets no money from the government. Nor are they funded by the Church hierarchy. ONLY BY DONATIONS!

I like AMS because I can support 3 things at once:
The Church
My Country (our troops)
Vocations

Some of the most impressive and devout young men entering the priesthood come from AMS.

www.milarch.org is the website. I recommend everyone interested look around, aside from the donations issue, it’s good to know this is happening.
I also recommend donating to the Archdiocese for the Military Services. These are the priests who serve all five branches of the Armed Forces. Navy Chaplains serve the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard, while Army Chaplains serve Army and Air Force serves Air Force. Their priests are “on loan” from other dioceses and from some religious orders, and their priests have to meet physical standards. Some of them (such as Fr. Daniel Mode, Fr. Francis Foley, Fr. Chad Zielinski, Fr. Martin Fitzgerald, and Fr. Eric Albertson to name a few) have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Archdiocese for the Military Services receives NO government funding, so your donation will go to good use. Quite frankly, I don’t give very much money to my home diocesan appeal because I give to the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

They have a good Archbishop (Broglio) who warned Congress about the dangers of repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell”. The last Archbishop (O’Brien) later became Archbishop of Baltimore and is now a Cardinal in Rome. Archbishop O’Brien is a veteran himself - serving in the Army in Vietnam. Two of the current auxillary bishops (Spencer and Buckon) were Army officers (Bukon in artillery, Spencer in law enforcement) before entering seminary. Another auxillary bishop is a retired Air Force Chaplain, and the newest one (Coyle) is a Navy Chaplain.

I enjoy reading the Salute magazine that is published by the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Thank you Rosella for suggesting this Archdiocese, which knows no boundaries.

Some beautiful soul did indeed make a donation to my little girl’s ministry, Change the Poor. Thank you so very much!

The donor lives in Europe and made an electronic donation in which they said they heard about Gracie’s efforts from this forum. How cool is that? Thank you!!!

If you’d like to check out Gracie’s page on Facebook, please go to facebook.com/pages/Change-the-Poor/353976158009496?fref=ts She’ll be so excited to have more people “like” the page.

Blessings!!!

I would suggest you visit modestneeds.com and beglist.com I myself have tried to receive help! Beglist may seem like scams, but ask for proof, I guarantee the majority of people asking for help are real. I’m currently struggling to buy groceries and school supplies. It’s not a scam when people will accept a gift card to a grocery store or even a $5 gas card. When you’re desperate for help you will accept anything. Even a prayer!

Hello, my name is Alan and I am the founder of Expedition Catholic. Expedition Catholic is a teen leadership training camp that runs during the summer months and teaches teens how to develop leadership skills, teambuilding, and how to stay actively engaged with the Catholic Church. Teens will naturally become more formed in their faith, and will learn never to give up on God, as He never gives up on them. More information is available at www.ExpeditionCatholic.com.

We are always looking for people or companies willing to sponsor a teen and help contribute to the success of our organization. Without the generosity of sponsors, we would not be able to continue to offer all that we give to the teens during their expeditions. Please go to the website and consider becoming a sponsor.

Thanks…and email me directly with any questions. Alan@expeditioncatholic.com.

God Bless!

This thread has been dormant for a considerable period. With rare exceptions, reviving threads after a protracted period of inactivity is discouraged because:
  • the issues that spurred them are often no longer “hot” or current topics, explaining why thread activity ceased originally.
  • posters originally involved in the discussion are sometimes no longer active on the forum and, therefore, unavailable to reply to comments added to the thread.
Our experience suggests that, when a topic merits revival, it is best accomplished by initiating a new thread that draws on recent events and can be posted to contemporaneously. This eliminates the baggage of folks being frustrated by asking and not receiving responses to issues raised in early posts (because the new poster didn’t notice that the post he was responding to was made a long time ago).

Posters are very welcome to open a new thread on the subject or any other topic, as well as to actively participate in the myriad active threads in the fora.
