If Adam and Even had two children, both sons, how are we here today? Did Cain sleep with Eve, his mother? If so, doesn’t the God of the bible specifically say that incest in against God’s law (See Lev. 20:11-14)?

also this one…

“With God all things are possible” - Matthew 19:26

“And the Lord was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.” - Judges 1:19

So, with God all things are NOT possible…?

I know I will hate myself for biting on this one, but read the quote again. It says all things are possible. It doesn’t say that you are guaranteed whatever it is you are asking God for.

As for the second quote, I believe that refers to Judah not being able to drive out the inhabitants of the valley.

[BIBLEDRB]Gen 5:3-4[/BIBLEDRB]

The Bible is not clear with how long it was or old Seth was when he was murdered by Cain. People lived a long time in those days. So Cain could have easily had a wife among his sisters.

I had always wondered this as well, why it seems that incest was allowed by God as a means to populate the earth.? It will be interesting to find out what others think that are much more englightened that I am. Guys please provide documentation too with propositions. I have not heard the Church’s position on this matter.

But God was “with Judah”. And “with God” all things are possible.

Um, I think you need to go back to the source to find out whom Cain actually murdered. Hint: it wasn’t Seth.

OP’s first question is answered in 5:4, as you correctly showed.

And this is why I said I would hate myself for biting on this one…

I believe you are here to nit pick everyone’s words and nothing more. Count me out.

Remember Adam live for many hundreds of years. We have no idea how long he and Eve were fertile. I think it is pretty obvious Cain married his sister. Remember the prohibitions against interfamilial marriage did not come along until the Mosaic Law. As far the danger of inbreeding, we are talking about the perfect first peoples and so I think we can fairly ask ourselves, how many negative genetic traits were there to be passed on by inter marriage.

Also remember Abram married his half sister, and that was no sin.

Isaac married Rebbekah, and Jacob married her nieces, that would make them both his cousins, well second cousins, but nevertheless, it was an interfamilial marriage and yet there was no sin.

Just something to consider.

God bless

All things are possible with God according to God’s will. If you are building an empire which against God’s will then consider the Tower of Babel and what happened there. Furthermore consider carefully that the Book of Judges is a story of the continual degradation of the Nation and so the failure of Judah is actually Judah’s failure and not God’s.

I don’t recall that it said in Genesis that they didn’t have a daughter, did it? Not everything is
mentioned in the Bible and a daughter(s) may have been one of these items.

Just a thought.

Uhhh whoops, no that would be Abel was murdered by Cain. Yikes, I guess I typed Seth down because I was looking at the Scripture I was quoting. Thanks for pointing this out. 😃

Why do you think Adam and Eve were the first humans, ever?

CUTE!

But the biblre DOES NOT SAY that they had ONLY TWO CHILDREN does it?👍

God Bless,
Pat

Why do you think Adam and Eve were the first humans, ever?
mitochondrial DNA

Y Chromosome DNA

Mitochondria is from moms only and Y DNA is from dads only they had to have come from somewhere, and at some point, even if accept evolution, there had to be a first human male and female.

God Bless

It was customary to omit the names of women from records unless they were of importance. The story of Adam and Eve was one passed down by word of mouth for generations until it was finally written down. It is not meant to be a historically accurate account of the creation of the world and man. It is to be taken as a story which contains truths.

Why do you think Adam and Eve were the first humans, ever?
The first book in the Old Testiment starts with Genesis, the creation of the world, and the creation of man and woman, whose names were Adam and Eve. So they were the first.

Just a thought about the start of creation.

Thanks for the explanations.

Maybe this one will tickle your fancy, garbonzo.

What were the last words of Jesus?

The most familiar claim is this…
“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, eli, lama sabachthani?” that is to say, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” …Jesus, when he cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.” - Matthew 27:46,50
But then we come across two more!
“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, “Father, unto thy hands I commend my spirit:” and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” - Luke 23:46
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished:” and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” - John 19:30.
Now, if these aren’t a contradiction, I don’t know what is.

So, how can Catholics decide which is the truth?

If no one can decide on even the most simplest of things, how then can one hold that the Bible is the literal word of God? Is God really that ADD?

Genesis 5:3 - 4 When Adam had lived a hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years;** and he had other sons and daughters.**

Yeah. Scott Hahn was on TV tonight in the third episode of his new series, Genesis to Jesus.

He put some emphasis on Gen chap 10, in which it is shown how the family of Adam has branched out to the seventy nations of the earth (70 descendents are mentioned – 70 is the number of nations of the world known at that time). So, this emphasized that all the nations of the earth are an extended family, but one family, nonetheless.

This is not a peripheral observation, at least by Jewish teachers (rabbis). They note that in murdering a man, you murder all his potential descendents – which follows from the previous discussion. etc.

Anyway, I think the post I quoted said all that needs to be said. I don’t think anybody can be productive picking this apart, further. Scripture says someplace that God looked in the other direction for a long time. What was not forbidden before the Sinai covenant (such as the Israelites idol worship in Egypt) – too – was no longer permitted after Sinai – and the first commandment that the Israelites broke, in the incident of the golden calf.
