Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me if these are sins and if they’re mortal or venial. Is digging up rocks and taking them home a sin? Cause I used to collect rocks and I took a rock from Canada one time, and one time next to a man’s house a rock was in the ground and I took it, but since then I have thrown all the rocks out. I’ve had friends sleep over at my house, and they would sleep in my bed at night. Nothing sexual happened. But is this a sin I have commited if they stayed in the same bed with me? And when my sister and I were little we would stay in the same bed like on Christmas Eve so we could both wake up at the same time in the morning. And I would put my arm and leg around her, but we didn’t do anything sexual, and sometimes when she didn’t like it I would keep doing it or just stop. Is this a sin I have commited? My dad would go out of town for work and my sister and I would sleep with my mom, and I would put my arm around her but nothing sexual happened. Is this a sin I have commited? When I was in kingergarten this girl couldn’t get her jump rope untangled because it was wrapped around a pole, and she couldn’t get it off, and I got it untangled for her but she had already left, and I took it home with me. But I can’t remember if I gave it back or not, I think it belonged to the school. Did I sin by doing this? I am going to confession again this Saturday to confess some sins I forgot about and didn’t remember until now. Can anyone tell me if these are sins?

Thank you and God Bless. Your friend, Amy:thumbsup:

Your post relays an impression of a tormented conscious and scrupulosity. Remember God loves you. We need to try and rest in His mercy. I think it would be a good idea to bring all this up to your confessor. No doubt he’ll help you. 🙂

For a sin to be mortal, you must have known that you were committing a grave sin at the time, and freely consented to it. Nothing that you mentioned seems to constitute a grave sin in and of itself.

Nevertheless, I would say that you should confess them, if they are on your mind. You shall not steal, so on that issue, it is something to confess. As for being in the same bed with I’m assuming female friends, that is innocent and common, and not at all a sin, provided they were female friends. If, however, you were lusting towards them at the time, then there is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed.

Now, the big issue. You got physical with your sister in bed. Why? Were you trying to show her honest and innocent sisterly love? Were you trying to annoy her? Did you just feel the urge to be physically close to someone? Or, is there more to it than that? Don’t answer that on the message board. Search your heart, be genuine, and address the matter at confession. Is she an older sister or a younger sister?

My dear, you need some serious time with a priest. You are needlessly torturing yourself with incidental activities that you consider sin.

God appreciates your concern to do His will but is saddened to think that you feel that you continually let Him down. He loves you and wants you to know that. Satan always wants you to feel that everything you do is sin so that you finally give up on the mercy of God.

Please, as I continue to read your other posts, see a priest and get all of this off of your chest. You probably have no mortal sins although you live as if you are condemned to hell. Seek help as soon as possible. It is of the utmost importance…You are in my prayers, reader 16 and God Bless…teachccd 🙂

As you explained them, I see no sins committed. See a priest and leave that discernment between the two of you…teachccd 🙂

Oh my goodness… man how heavy the burden the catholic church has placed upon you that you live in constant fear and guilt

break free from it

Roman 20, you’ve been in the forums a little over an hour and boy are you wreaking havoc slow down so I can shed a little light your way.

Amy, please talk with a priest about these matters. None of the things you listed would qualify as mortal sins, but you are showing signs of scrupulosity here, and you will not find peace until you learn to deal with that. Your priest can help you to overcome this most troubling state of conscience.

As far as the rocks go, unless they were a part of someone’s special collection and you took them, no problem – they are just rocks and don’t really “belong” to anyone. And as far as sleeping with your sister or your friend in the same bed, keep in mind that many people can’t afford separate rooms or even separate beds for all of their children, so the kids have to share all the time. It’s not sinful. I knew one girl who slept with two of her sisters in one big bed! Continuing to cuddle up to your sister when she didn’t want you to might be slightly venially sinful if you did it just to annoy her, but the rest is just fine. Same with the jump-rope. As long as you didn’t deliberately take it with the intention of not returning it, there is no sin here.

God bless you.
