If we want to sign up for something, do we have to put our entire name -including our last name- when it asks for it? I know most Privacy Policies usually promises not to give out any information, but still.

I once abbreviated my name on the Internet when signing up for something. This was probably…10 or more years ago. I still today get junk snail mail in that abbreviated form. (At least I know it is junk and can just recycle automatically!)

I suppose it depends what you’re signing up for. If they would need to take you to the hospital in the event of an accident, then yes, they’d need your full real name.
But if it’s just something on-line where they’ll never meet you in person, then I suppose you could use any name you wanted to use.

If you are filling out a legal form, then it would be fraudulent to not use your proper name. If you are signing up for something on the internet or local survey, then it doesn’t matter from a moral standpoint.
Giving out your full name doesn’t represent any significant security threat to you under normal circumstances. You may be surprised to find out how much information is already public knowledge. Just remember to keep a separate e-mail address for signing up for things so that you don’t have to deal with spam to your main address.
