I am glad to see that you are an advocate for Cardinal Dolan. I have had the honor of meeting him on 5 different occasions and that is because he makes himself available to New Yorkers. Cardinal Dolan is an extremely personable individual. He is as big as a bear and has the heart of a Gentle Lion.

We are blessed to have him here in New York City. He has already begun to Repair St. Patrick’s Cathedral - Inside and Out-

I don’t mean to sound all stuffy, but someone forwarded this to me and I didn’t understand why I needed to vote for Archbishop Dolan to get worldly accolades.
Well, the Church’s public stature can be an important tool of evangelization. When the main message the media pushes on the public is “The Church is an irrelevancy with no social authority,” what do you think that does to our apostolate – to say nothing of the morale of those of us already in the Church?

I kind of agree with you. Plus I wonder if Cardinal Dolan would even want to be in Time Magazine. I know its probably beyond his control; however I can picture him saying: “I cannot of myself do any thing. As I hear, so I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.”

maybe because the bishops are indispute with obama and it would strengthen archbishop Dolan’s hand if the president believes the church still holds sway

I agree. I’d vote for my own archbishop first.

is your bishop in the running as the date to close voting is the 6th april?

I agree. I’d vote for my own archbishop first.
How would that be any different from voting for Archbishop Dolan if one didn’t feel he needed “worldly accolades”?

I did vote for the Archbishop and it didn’t have anything to do with him getting or not getting attention. It did have everything to do with voting for the good, moral choice over the immoral choices that are on that list. That is one crazy list.

You’re right and point taken. I shouldn’t have started with “I agree.”

Thanks for your comment “Saveusfromhell”👍

I am as old fashioned, traditional Catholic as it gets[BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]. But, like the above post indicates, The POTUS needs to see that the Catholic Church has followers, that the Catholic Church is still relevant, and maybe just maybe we are able to do something regarding the disputes going on right now. We need an edge of some type.
Also, like Father Z posted in his blog, its also a question of solidarity.
And to those who might not be aware of the ongoing disputes, it also helps
someone out there who might be interested in the faith, or is in doubt…
Its a question of sticking together as a family, even when you do not agree with them,
just in case it helps us all to fight the major issues, and to be able to evangelize more.
At the end of the day, it will not hurt us, but if we end up at the bottom, most will say the Church is no longer relevant…😦
I personally do not read TIME at all, but if he ends up as most INFLUENTIAL person of the year, it should only help our Church & to use it to spread the faith.

In addition, I really do not want to see Lady Gaga  (so more teenagers put this individual on their pedestal :() or the POTUS, MO or H. Clinton ahead of a Catholic leader…A very strange list indeed…

I was originally going to post the link here, but I was concerned of it not being received well… :o

Thanks to all voting & posting here!
And I voted for Cardinal Timothy Dolan, a Prince
Of Holy Mother Church,
Blessings,

Pax,

I voted for him!👍

thanks true light, megan any idea what the voting is at now?

First, worldly accolades are a good thing if they are deserved. Isn’t that what we do with saints, popes, etc? Why is he a prince? A prince is a title of royalty. The answer is simple, the Church is temporal and eternal. It belongs in the world and it must be visible.

Second, as we say at mass, “It is right and just.” The man deserves it. He has done much for the Church in the USA.

Third, the Catholics in the USA need to see their Church in a positive light. Why have only pictures of clergy who have abused children and no of those who have done great things for the Church? Where is the just use of media?

Fourth, as Catholics we owe it to the princess of the Church to uphold then in the eyes of the secular world. We certainly go out of our way to uphold athletes, rock starts, movie stars and politicians. This is not a matter of should we, but a matter of we must. We must make the princess of the Church known to the world and respected by the world.

Finally, Cardinal Dolan is not a consecrated religious. He is a secular Catholic. He has every right to be counted among the leaders of the secular world, because he has been a good leader. Let’s separate priesthood from consecrated life, please. They are not the same. As long as we treat them the same, we’ll never get it right.

Good Morning “Saveusfromhell”🙂

When I checked last night Cardinal Dolan had moved up to 14th place, And Ron Paul
was still at #3, now out of nowhere, Ron Paul is #4 and Cardinal Dolan is at # 15
(so he dropped a slot)

Cardinal Dolan has a total of 26,585 YES VOTES and a 60.46%, so his % has gone
back up, his numbers are up, but he went from 14th place to 15th place :o

And if I am not mistaken, I think he is still ahead of POTUS, Vladimir Putin, MO, etc.👍

It saddens me to see that even though we have a lot of more votes from the time I first voted, I was expecting more by now.

The deadline is April 6th, Good Friday. Please spread the word! Thanks for voting!👍

Oh, and by the way, our Holy Father has selected Archbishop Timothy Dolan as a Prince of the Church, so now he is Archbishop Timothy CARDINAL Dolan, that should count for something…If we cannot stand behind the selection made by our Holy Father, than
what does that mean??? :o

And I am with Brother JR, we go around putting on pedestals rock stars, athletes, movie stars, Lady Gaga 😦 young people are looking up to the wrong people (and imitating them!) We should give credit where credit is due. I am sure his job is not an easy one…
We have to continue to pray for our Priests, Bishops & Religious Orders, etc. and give them our support & respect.

Have a Blessed & Holy Week everyone!
Thanks for all of your posts.

Blessings,

Pax,

Br. JR, that is true, but have you seen the list of people who have been accoladed by Time?

history1900s.about.com/od/people/a/Man-Of-The-Year.htm
Good point. I also wonder about the long term.

The idea of cardinals or any other Christians being given accolades and hanging around with politicians and celebrities scares me - the risk is that we will try to please the world rather than conform the world to Christ.

I’m not arguing this will happen, just expressing that it’s my concern.
