Please Watch Newt Gingrich

A good video. Although, I believe many on the left won’t even watch it, with preconceived assumptions of Newt Gingrich entrenched in their minds. The secularists are open to diversity, except when it comes to conservatives and Christians.
 
I hope Catholics don’t get too excited about Gingrich because he is a convert. He started divorce proceedings against his first wife while she was in the hospital suffering from cancer. He was married to his second wife when he started his relation with Callista. Frankly, that makes me very suspicious. When you divorce two wives your ability to keep sacred vows comes into question.

On top of that, of course, he was censured by the House in 1997 and fined $300,000 for breaking House rules, tax evasion, etc. That was not partisan. The vote to censure him was 395-28.
My own impression is that Gingrich's record (as well as some of his positions, frankly) make him unqualified to become president. It would disgrace America and do further harm to the church. He sounds great now, of course, because he is so eager to be president. I will never vote for him.

First, where in the topic or video did this become about Newt Gingrich becoming president. Whatever you might think of him, he has some good ideas for our country. Also, we are all sinners, and I am sure God has forgiven him along with welcoming him home.

Thanks for pointing this out. Whether people want to admit or not, past sins, no matter WHAT the gravity, are forgiven if we are truly sorry. It’s hard- I acknowledge that. If someone stole money from me, or hurt my family, I’d never forgive them-but God would.
 
Would anyone be willing to distill the ideas presented in the video? I’m not a video person (I watch, at most, three hours of TV per week.) I find video a slow, and inefficient, way to gain information. Of course, many people prefer video over the printed word. There isn’t anything wrong with that - its just a different preference.
 
People always seem so willing to forgive the pasts/faults of those with whom they agree, and so unwilling to do so for those with whom they disagree.
 
Interesting discussion.

Let’s just cut to the chase: Gingrich is now a Catholic in good standing. He had to jump through a lot of hoops to get to this point. [If people want to judge his past behavior, then they will also have to engage in a LOT of off- topic and uncharitable discussion regarding some politicians that they do like, some of whom are / were Catholic.]

Let’s just stay on topic and discuss the ideas that Gingrich is discussing in the video.
 
I was unable to watch the video - kept getting a “try later” memo, and I really don’t care about his Catholicism or personal life; but his ideology is what concerns me the most. I would never support him based upon his past political performance. Does a leopard change his spots? Be very careful, conservatives!

It was Newt Gingrich’s ideology when he was speaker that caused me to leave my support of the Republican Party and become an independent. I don’t think I could reverse my opinion of him; new ideas or not.😦

His contract with America was very conservative and I supported it. So we cancel each other out.
 
Newt, quite frankly, scares me. As a conservative, I could never support him. If you look at his record you will understand how he embraces big central government, is pro-GATT, pro-amnesty, pro U.N. and a dyed-in-the-wood globalist. He is no friend of the Constitution and is a member of the CFR (which works to end our national sovereignty.) Most frightening, he is a disciple of Alvin Toffler who promoted a new system of government which rejects the principles of our founding fathers.

He is one of the “new-breed” of Republicans, and is as far away from the conservative base as McCain. As a supporter of the Tea Party Movement, he certainly isn’t my “cup of tea.”

But you were ok with Bill Clinton and his NUMEROUS extra maritial affairs and questionable involve in the Whitewater scandal?
 
If a man cheats on his wife, he will cheat on the country. Enough said.

‘can a leopard change his spots’? the answer is yes they can. That is christian teaching is it not? We as Christians should strive every day to change our spots. If you don’t believe it is possible then why even call yourself a Christian because you doomed yourself to failure already.

Perhaps my post was unclear. I am not talking about his spirituality, Catholic or otherwise, but his political ideology that has always been questionable to me given his past record. Newt is a career politician and firmly ensconsed in the Establishment. Given the corruption of the politics of the day by both major parties, I am suspect and nothing he has said lately has made me change my mind.

A failure huh? I don’t know if that is completely accurate and you may want to do alot more research. I know that due to that contract and some of the stuff that they got through during the time, we had an incredible amount of prosperity until the democrats took over the congress back in 2007. I know that the leftist press are trying very hard to rewrite history but you would have had to live in a cave not to have seen and experienced the success of the contract with America in the 90s.

I personnally like Newt, he is an extremely intelligent person. Far more intelligent that the President we have now. But I do not think that he would be a good presidental nominee because for the most part he is damaged goods. The dems and the press worked very hard to destroy this man while he was the speaker of the House and they were successful. And there are certain things that he supports that I do not such as the global warming hoax. But you cannot take away all of the good he did for this country with the Contract of America.
 
You nailed it, brother. Gingrich will largely get accolades in CAFbecause he converted to Catholicism. Never mind the marital disasters and betrayals, getting censured for corrupt moves and not living the Christian lifestyle, etc. This drives me nuts.

On the other side of the coin of your argument, Sarah Palin and Glen Beck are so revered in these forums and YET they are both former Catholics who dumped their faith for Pentecostalism and Mormonism (!!) respectively. Sheesh…go figure…
