I have a question about performing a plenary indulgence for a deceased person. Does this person need to be specifically named in my intent? I want to do an indulgence for some unknown person who was a victim of clerical abuse. I would state the intent something like "this indulgence Lord is for one person who has passed to Purgatory who was a victim of clerical sexual abuse.
Is this possible or do I have to know of a specific person and name them?
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks

It is possible for you to do this. I know sometimes people might just generally apply a plenary indulgence to the Poor Souls without mentioning any names in particular. At that point, God applies the merit where it is best applied.

You do not have to name the person.

I have done plenaries designated “For a US military member who died in War X” (like on Memorial Day) or “For a soul most in need of Thy help” etc, and I just tell God to please select an appropriate soul to benefit from the plenary.

God knows who it is for. He will take care of everything in His Mercy.
