I put together a small booklet (in MS Word format) of the Plenary Indulgences For 2012 Limited to the USA. It is by no means comprehensive, and would appreciate any (name removed by moderator)ut / additions. I have attached it here in .pdf format.

If you please, I welcome your feedback on the content. 🙂

That’s fantastic! I didn’t know about the extended Sacrament period granted in 2000.

Not much Eastern stuff in here (I’ve seen you over at the EC forum), but I do know that Akathists are indulgenced. I think indulgences/purgatory are a touchy subject for some in the ECC.

Thanks for the feedback! I found a few communities internationally who have jubilee years this year, but it’s unlikely I’ll make a pilgrimage anywhere in 2012 so I discounted them.

As I understand, I’m still bound by Latin norms. Are indulgences considered a Latinization?

While the attitude of a small minority of ECCers would make you think so, they are not a Latinization – indulgences are bound together with purgatory, and purgatory is understood differently in the ECC. As Catholics we are obliged to be faithful to Catholic dogma, but the theological approach can vary.

You could research some threads on the EC CAF side of things and get a bewildering assortment of responses, but I would make an appointment with your local EC priest to better understand it.

btw, concerning “Latinization” … I’d be careful with this word. It is used by well-meaning ECCers as a way of saying that they are trying to reclaim their spiritual traditions (as they should), but far too often it comes off as East vs West. We are Cathlic – not East or West, but East and West. 🙂

Thank you so much! I am going to try and print this out.

p.s. - Don’t forget to check EWTN’s website every so often, for times of quite a few live Papal broadcasts coming up to receive the Papal blessing! He’ll be visiting Cuba and Mexico, Chrism Mass, Stations of the Cross at the Coliseum on Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Easter Vigil, Urbi et Orbi…👍

Questions:
Can a plenary indulgence be requested for two people (like both parents) or would it have to be for one at a time?
Also, do you receive the plenary indulgence as well as the person you are requesting it for?

You could add praying the stations is an indulgence. 🙂 Thank you for this. It is really nice that you shared it with all of us. 🙂

I have a question about the Papal blessing via the TV or Radio, is that even possible?

I was told, maybe this is incorrect, but watching Adoration via a web cam doesn’t give you the same graces as being there in person. I questioned this myself as limiting God but that is what the priest said. Any help in explaining this??

Mike

With the Papal blessing, the Catholic station or t.v. network has stated time and again that viewers and listeners also receive the Papal blessing. It is a different story watching Adoration via webcam. I can’t explain exactly why. But you do receive the Pope’s blessing thru a broadcast. It is also listed on all plenary indulgence lists. It’s totally true.

Thank you very much, I just made the assumption that since Adoration (Jesus) via webcam and the Pope blessings were the same since they are using the same medium.

I wonder why viewing Adoration via webcam has no graces or indulgences attached. This is purely my thought, how can we limit God by saying that you can’t get the same blessings via web cam as you can in physical presence.
