Hi everyone,
I have been trying to figure out how to pray for the souls in Purgatory. I couldn’t figure out what exactly I was trying to ask from God. Basically I want to get as many souls out of Purgatory and into Heaven, as soon as possible. Recently, I started praying for plenary indulgences for individual souls in Purgatory, and I just thought about starting to pray daily for as many souls in Purgatory to receive partial or plenary indulgences as possible. So that is what I am going to do as often as I can, and I wanted to see if I could interest anyone else in regularly praying for this intention as well. But I am recommending praying this intention in conjunction with the Rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet and possibly novenas for this intention.
I don’t want to start a discussion in this thread, but if you have any suggestions for me as to good ways to pray for the souls in Purgatory, please PM me, or maybe direct me to another thread or article or writings on the subject of praying for souls in Purgatory. I have always been kind of confused on how to pray for the souls in Purgatory, what to ask, etc. and would greatly appreciate any assistance on doing so. Also, I have been kind of ignorant of how indulgences work and how to successfully obtain them. But I am going to start praying for plenary indulgences for all the souls in Purgatory, and hopefully that will lead me, and hopefully others, in the right direction.
Thanks for any prayers for this intention, and any guidance you can offer in a private message to me.
God bless you all. Amen.

Prayer for Mercy for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Have Mercy, O gentle Jesus!
On the Souls detained in Purgatory.
You Who for their ransom did take
upon Yourself our human nature
and suffer the most cruel death,
pity their sighs and the tears shed
when they raise their longing eyes
toward You; and by virtue of Your
Passion, cancel the penalty due
to their sins.

May Your Blood, O tender Jesus,
Your Precious Blood, descend into
Purgatory to solace and refresh those
who there languish in captivity.
Reach forth Your hand to them,
and lead them into the realms
of refreshment, light, and peace.

Divine Heart of Jesus,
convert sinners, save the dying,
set free the Holy Souls
in Purgatory. ✝️

We have to earn indulgences for them. That requires Holy Communion and Confession and a prescribed work on each person’s part, that wants to earn an indulgence

You ask for their swift release into heaven. Pretty simple.

Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

Almighty God, Father of goodness and love,
have mercy on the poor suffering souls, and grant Thine aid:

To my dear parents and ancestors;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To my brothers and sisters and other near relatives;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To my benefactors, spiritual and temporal;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To my former friends:
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To all for whom love or duty bids me pray;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who have suffered disadvantage or harm through me;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who have offended me;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To all those who are especially beloved by Thee;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those whose release is at hand;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who desire most to be united with Thee;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who endure the greatest suffering;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those whose release is most remote;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who are least remembered;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who are most deserving
on account of their services to the Church;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the rich, who now are the most destitute;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the mighty, who now are as lowly servants;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the blind, who now see their folly;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the frivolous, who spent their time in idleness;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the poor, who did not seek the treasures of Heaven;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the tepid,
who devoted little time to prayer;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the indolent,
who were negligent in performing good works;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those of little faith,
who neglected the frequent reception of the Sacraments;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the habitual sinners,
who owe their salvation to a miracle of grace;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To parents who failed to watch over their children;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To superiors who were not solicitous
for the salvation of those entrusted to them;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the souls of those who strove
for hardly anything but riches and pleasures;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To the worldly-minded,
who failed to use their wealth
and talents in the service of God;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who witnessed the death of others,
but would not think of their own;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who died on the battlefield;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who are buried in the sea;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who died of stroke or heart attack;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who died without the last rites of the Church;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To those who shall die within the next twenty-four hours;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

To my own poor soul when I shall have to appear
before Thy judgment seat;
Jesus, Mary, Joseph! My Jesus, mercy.

O Lord, grant eternal rest to all the souls of the faithful departed,
And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace.
Amen.

Praying for the souls in purgatory.

Purgatory is to purify and to help us to detach ourselves from sin so as to be able to freely recieve God’s love and to fully love God, holding nothing back. Consider the possibility that your prayers and love for them may help them to be able to detach from sin and to both fully receive God’s love and to love him more completely. And so that they may truly become the spotless bride of Christ.
