Plenary indulgences for Holy souls

I read through this and for gaining a plenary indulgence by praying the rosary it can be done in your own home, which was something I didn’t know before. All the other sources on plenary indulgences I’ve read state the rosary must be prayed in a family group, church or oratory, religious community or in some pious association; but no mention of your own home.

The above link is in Latin so I had to translate it, I was wondering if adoration before the tabernacle for at least half an hour could carry the same plenary indulgence as adoration before the blessed sacrament?

1. A plenary indulgence is granted to one of the faithful who visits the Blessed Sacrament to adore It for at least one-half an hour.
2. A plenary indulgence is granted to one of the faithful who spends at least half an hour in reading Sacred Scripture with the veneration due to the divine word, as spiritual reading.
3. A plenary indulgence is granted to one of the faithful who performs the pious exercise of the Way of the Cross. This must be made before the Stations of the Way of the Cross legitimately erected.
4. A plenary indulgence is granted to one of the faithful who recites the Rosary of at least five decades, with devout meditation on the mysteries, in a church or public oratory, or in a family group, or in a religious community, or in some pious Association. To the vocal recitation must be added devout meditation on the mysteries. The five decades are to be recited in continuity.

So to your first point: In order to gain the indulgence for praying the rosary in your home, it must be said in a family setting. So you can’t do it alone. The only place it can be done alone is before the Blessed Sacrament.

To your question on the Eucharist: Yes, the same indulgence holds for adoring the Blessed Sacrament for at least one-half an hour.

In order to gain an indulgence, the conditions must be met: Perform the prescribed work, Sacramental Confession, Sacramental Communion, and prayers for the Supreme Pontiff. In addition, it is required that all attachment to sin, even venial sin, be absent. If this disposition is in any way less than complete, or if the three prescribed conditions are not fulfilled the indulgence will only be partial.

A person can gain only one plenary indulgence per day. That is not to say we should not strive to perform all the works which allow for a plenary indulgence each day. For me, I try to fulfill the Rosary, Adoration, and reading of Sacred Scripture conditions every day. It increases the odds of gaining the plenary indulgence. If one of those works gains the plenary indulgence, then the others are applied as partial indulgences.

Then I give them to Our Lady so that she may set free some Poor Soul from Purgatory.

If the Blessed Sacrament is inside the tabernacle, then you are de facto adoring the Blessed Sacrament. Your mind is focused on what inside the tabernacle. It is not required for the Eucharist to be exposed.

Thank you, this is great to hear as I arrive about an hour early for morning Mass specifically for this reason. There’s allways adoration after Mass at my parish for an hour but I’m not usually able to stay for much more than few minutes.

That’s great to hear. I try to get to mass half an hour early, so I can stay a half an hour after. Whatever works best though, you can’t go wrong.

That God would allow us to do reparation for our sins in this life by simply saying a rosary, or spending time with Him for a half hour, is truly amazing. The depths of the riches of the mercies of God are unfathomable!
