Ok, in light of Divine Mercy Sunday I would like to ask a question about Plenary indulgences.

Does the indulgence rid the obtainer of temporal punishment (time in purgatory) for ALL past sins, even ones forgotten in confession or confessed before. Or does it only apply to the sins confessed for the indulgence?

Concerning the Feast of Mercy Jesus said:

Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary 300)

The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will I contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. All sins. Period.

But don’t get too excited. There’s a catch. You have to have NO attachment to even venial sin to get a plenary indulgence, which is fairly tough to do, in my opinion. Otherwise, it downgrades to a partial indulgence. Still worth doing, in my opinion, but I’m just sayin’… 🙂

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Confession on Saturday, Then partake in the Divine Mercy Chaplet on Sunday morning, hopefully I could sleep from confession to the chaplet.😉

for all forgiven sins…(by the way if one forgot a mortal sin…one is obligated to confess it in the next confession…if you remember it…)

of course one needs to note that such is regarding a plenary indulgence (one could argue as to how “difficult” it is to be detached from all sin of course)

What is offered though in addition to the plenary indulgence of the Church…via the *private revelation *regarding the Feast of Divine Mercy is different. It is more wide and “easier” …but of course such is a private revelation and thus while one can give human belief to it if one follows it in prudence…it is not ‘Certain’ in the way Divine Revelation is…

So bottom line…seek to fulfill the conditions for both 🙂

**Three conditions for the plenary indulgence **

And so the Supreme Pontiff, motivated by an ardent desire to foster in Christians this devotion to Divine Mercy as much as possible in the hope of offering great spiritual fruit to the faithful, in the Audience granted on 13 June 2002, to those Responsible for the Apostolic Penitentiary, granted the following Indulgences:

a plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honour of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!");

A partial indulgence, granted to the faithful who, at least with a contrite heart, pray to the merciful Lord Jesus a legitimately approved invocation.

**For those who cannot go to church or the seriously ill **In addition, sailors working on the vast expanse of the sea; the countless brothers and sisters, whom the disasters of war, political events, local violence and other such causes have been driven out of their homeland; the sick and those who nurse them, and all who for a just cause cannot leave their homes or who carry out an activity for the community which cannot be postponed, may obtain a plenary indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday, if totally detesting any sin, as has been said before, and with the intention of fulfilling as soon as possible the three usual conditions, will recite the Our Father and the Creed before a devout image of Our Merciful Lord Jesus and, in addition, pray a devout invocation to the Merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you).

If it is impossible that people do even this, on the same day they may obtain the Plenary Indulgence if with a spiritual intention they are united with those carrying out the prescribed practice for obtaining the Indulgence in the usual way and offer to the Merciful Lord a prayer and the sufferings of their illness and the difficulties of their lives, with the resolution to accomplish as soon as possible the three conditions prescribed to obtain the plenary indulgence.

The “huh” is just a statement asking for agreement (sorry, I’m around little kids all day, use a lot of kid slang)!

Animals live outside in chicken coops, barns, and pastures.

Dear Lord,

Grant that I may die on a Divine Mercy Sunday (hopefully a long ways off, and not anytime soon), just AFTER I have made the requirements for the plenary indulgence…😃

By far the simplest “get out of jail card” imaginable !!!

Funny I did a search and realized that this thread was recent. I usually forget about indulgences but I want to try for one again since remembered. I went to confession yesterday and plan on attending mass today and praying for the popes intentions. Obviously try my best to be detached from sin, but is there anything else I need to do? I just click on the link to explain complete detachment from sin, it says that the confession can take place within 20 days. If I am going for an indulgence now and one later for divine mercy, is there anything else I need to do to obtain one now? Thanks

Confession only needs to within 2 weeks either side of the indulged act and communion.

You have to take part in some sort of Divine Mercy observance on the Sunday after Easter. If there is not one a your parish then you can do one yourself. Perhaps the Divine mercy Chaplet.
 
so all indulgences must be with the divine mercy? I thought that was only one kind of an indulgence?

im sorry, no. The indulgence for divine mercy sunday is what I thuoght was being refered to. I would recomend the 'handbook of indulgences" for any other indulgence qualifications.
