The Island country of Malta which is very Catholic and Abortion is banned. Has a program called Plus Nine. This is where you go back Nine Months from your birthday to your First Day. This day is celebrated. What do you think of this??? The day you were concieved.

I thinks its great. We celebrate the the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Dec 8th and Mary’s Birthday is Sept 8th. My B-day 12/7/1959 Yesterday I Celebrated my 50th First Day. 🙂 Thanks Mom & Dad

What a wonderful idea! I was a bit premature as was my DH. I wonder if our parents could tell us (approximately at least) when our first day was? Thank you for sharing.

God bless!

That sounds interesting. We have a priest from Malta living in our parish. I will ask him about it.

I just asked our visiting priest and he said he never heard of it. We have a lot of priests from Malta who spend time in our parish, in fact one of our visiting priests is the bishop’s secretary. I will have to e-mail him to see if he has heard of it. Still it is a neat idea.

Sort of related . . . in some Asian countries, you are considered one year old when you are born.

I wonder if that means they consider you a full fledged person before you are born.

I first heard about this on Ave Maria Radio, below is the quote from Fr, Frank Pavone’s Blog on Priest for Life

Plus Nine
On the island of Malta, where unborn children are still protected, there is a campaign called “plus nine.” The idea is to make people aware that their unique and individual lives began not on the day of their birth but on the day they were conceived. That is the day they began to exist. Through this effort, the plus sign, and the number 9, are placed in as many places as possible, to make people think of this simple, powerful concept, which is based not simply on religious belief, but on biological fact. Some observe this fact by celebrating not only their birthday, but their “FirstDay,” nine months earlier. Indeed, the children in the womb are real people. Through simple efforts like “plus nine,” we can help people realize that it is wrong to kill them.

I do that every year when we celebrate my Dad’s birthday!!

I was born 9 months to the day after his birthday!! Every year I present myself to him with a bow on my head and say I am the gift that keeps on giving!!! LOL!!

A little weird, but a fun tradition! Of course he always has a smart coment about still looking for the return counter, but it’s all in good fun.😃
