Does anyone know where I can find, preferably, an RSV Bible that would fit in a man’s back jean’s pocket? I’ve looked and I’ve looked for something but not much has come up, the closest I’ve come was oxford’s rsv compact bible. It seems Protestant publishers out-do us in the Bible marketing department (which can be observed by entering any Christian bookstore and looking at the Bible section. WHAM tons of Bibles, big and small, leather covers, metal covers, bright colors, all kinds of stuff!) so if anyone could point me in the right direction, I’d appreciate it. Just a simple, real pocket size Catholic Bible.

I looked, too, and couldn’t find one.

If you have a Palm pilot, you can get bibles on those.

what you need is a bible without notes, articles in front and back, bible dictionary, maps and all the other stuff that makes the book so bulky. RSV-CE is your best bet but the only low-cost edition I know is the Ignatius which is too big. There are several pocket size new Testaments w/psalms. for some reason our prisons only allow books that are larger than 4 x 6" so that is what we buy in bulk from American bible Society. I had a pocket-size NRSV I used for a long time (Protestant of course, but I was back-packing and wanted the smallest I could find) but now I cannot even read the small type. giant print NAB is bigger than my collected works of Shakespear and twice as heavy.

I saw an RSV pocket edition New Testament/Psalms once online. I’ll include a link below. There’s a catch, though. It ships from the UK so it will take about 12 weeks surface or 14 days air to get it. It’s the only pocket RSV. It’s been on my wishlist for a long time. Hope this helps.

The compact RSV-CE is on the bookshelf locally at $29.99; at catholicfreeshipping.com for the same price. amazon.com has it every-day priced at $19.79.

Am saving my nickles and dimes for that edition. I, too, need a pocket version for my go-bag.

I recommend the RSV-Catholic Edition.
I have this version, and while it would fit nicely in a backpack, I think it’s way to big for a back pocket.
I have yet to find an entire OT/NT combo that small.
There are several NT/Psalms editions that are backpocket sized. I have the Confraternity edition (NT only) which you can get on the EWTN website.

The only Holy Bible I currently own is a pocket-sized (literally!) New Testament: Psalms & Proverbs Red Letter Edition. My wife gave it to me and she said it may have been given to her at her Confirmation (circa 1986). I am unsure exactly which Bible it is, but here is some info regarding it. If anyone knows the specifics, please let me know.

World Bible Publishers was bought out by Catholic Book Publishers. The new version can be found here: catholicbkpub.com/ONLINE_CAT/sub_default.asp?MC_ID=CQ&SC_ID=CQ4

Again, this is a NT/Psalms. Not both the OT and the NT together.

Does anyone know if there is currently a Catholic edition of the Holy Bible which will fit into a men’s back pants pocket released since this thread was started? I have a KJV called “The Smallest Bible” which can be found here: christianbook.com/kjv-smallest-bible-bonded-leather-black/9780840706164/pd/105BK?item_code=WW&netp_id=148595&event=ESRCN&view=covers

It measures 3.75" x 5.25" x 0.75" and fits nicely in my back pocket which still being quite readable (to me at least). I have not been able to find a Catholic edition of similar size. This thread is pretty old, so hopefully someone knows of a new development.

You might want to check out the RSV-C Bible published by Oxford. It is usually listed as Compact Ignatius Bible. It contains both the Old and New Testaments and is readable by my bifoculed 60+ years old eyes. The paper is quite thin and it comes permanently encased in a nice leather cover with a zipper. I measured it to be approximately **6 1/2 " by 5 3/4" by 1 1/8". **I doubt if any can be smaller and still be readable. It is my travel bible. It has minimal notes. You can find it at many on-line Catholic shops. It is on sale at Ignatius Press for $25.46 (down from $29.95).

Thank you for your reply. This is the smallest Catholic Bible I have come across (smaller than my NAB), but not as small as the protestant versions one can find. I will bookmark the link you gave and look for it also in my local bookstore. I have several other translations and versions, but I do not have a RSV.

Thanks again.

If anyone is still looking for a small pocket size Bible…The smallest I’ve come across is from Catholic Truth society New Catholic Bible - Compact Travel Edition. Dimensions: 9.6x14.5cm OR 3.8" x 5.7"
cts-online.org.uk/acatalog/info_SC102.html
Price: £20.00 / $32.80
I bought this Bible and am very pleased with it. It does not fit into a back pocket as it is over two inches thick, but it is otherwise small and has a snap cover so it lives nicely in my backpack. Thank you very much for posting this link.

iPhone and iPod touch have a ton of bible programs too. At least one of them has the DRV.
