Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Feast of St. John of the Cross, and his poem “Wayfaring Virgin” is one of my favorites, especially during Advent:

The Wayfaring Virgin

The Wayfaring Virgin
Word in her womb
comes walking your way-
Haven’t you room for your Virgin and Mother?
Haven’t you room?
When Bethlehem’s coldness
bids her depart
O say to the virgin:
Come to my heart
with your heavenly burden
Come to my heart.

Thanks for your reply,

Yes, It is a beautiful poem from the heart of a great saint. May we open our hearts as St. John and all the saints have done on this earth to welcome Jesus living in Mary. Like St. Joseph may we do all we can to protect Virgin and Child.

We can be like those in Bethlehem who had no room if we crowd our hearts with things that are not leading us or others closer to Him. Let us seek Him as the wise men did and find Him in the arms of His Mother (and ours).
