Poinsettias and Planned Parenthood

Poinsettias are a traditional flower during the Christmas season. Many churches and homes are adorned with these colorful flowers.

For several years, James Hartline has been trying to alert the pro-life community in the United States about the connections between poinsettias and Planned Parenthood.

Mr. Hartline has an extensive website devoted to this, which can be found at: jameshartlinereport.blogspot.com/2006/11/action-alert-how-christians-are.html. The connection is this.

  Seventy percent of the poinsettias sold in the United States come from the Ecke Ranch in California. A June 2006 press release from Ecke said that it is “the only North American based company breeding and producing geraniums and poinsettias.”
· The Ecke family runs the Ecke ranch. The current CEO of the ranch is Paul Ecke III.

· In the fall 2005 San Diego/Riverside County Planned Parenthood Newsletter, the Planned Parenthood President’s Council major donor list included:

o The Ecke family

o Elisabeth (Jinx) Ecke

o Lizbeth A. Ecke and David Meyer

o Paul Ecke III and Julie Hampton

o Paul and Magdalena Ecke Poinsettia Foundation

o Sara Ecke May and Andrew W. May Family

According to a November 17, 2005 North County Times report, Elisabeth “Jinx” Ecke joined her three grown children, Paul Ecke III, Lizbeth Ecke and Sara Ecke May, to contribute $250,000 of the needed $340,000 for the renovation of the new Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at 1820 Marron Road in Carlsbad. At the dedication of the new Carlsbad abortion facility, clinic staff honored the Ecke Family with a catered reception.
 
Don’t forget the other 25% and those who produce them. My son-in-law produces 20,000+ each year and an equal number of Easter lilies and he is in no way connected with Planned Parenthood. He may be small potatoes in the overall scheme of things, but this is part of his business which provides for his family. Statements like this hurt the innocent along with the guilty.

How do we know which flowers are your son-in-law’s. I would be happy to purchase his flowers if I had a way of knowing.

I would think asking the greehouse/nursery selling them…they know who they are buying from:)
 
I would think this could be a windfall for pro-Life poinsettia producers, if the word got out about who was and who was not supporting Planned Parenthood. I guess some system of knowing who’s who would have to be set up, requiring some work, but work that would be well worth the effort. Because I do not want my church putting money in Planned Parenthood’s pockets, even indirectly, if it is avoidable.

It’s not too soon to start planning for next year.
