Unless we invoke modal logic and accept that it may ā€œpossiblyā€ be a pointless thread. If this is not what the OP meant, then my argument is pointless. Carry on please.

Trust the professionals to complicate everything, and screw it all up. Next thing we know, thereā€™ll be a lawyer suing for a class action against pointlessness, on the basis of wasting clients time and money.

I dunno. An experiment could be pointless.

Google seems to confirm this. A search for ā€œpointless experimentā€ turns up about 741,000 results.

Now make that 741,001.

Immaterial. The experiment might have a point, but be utilizing a pointless thread as its means for reaching a conclusion. The thread, however, could still remain pointless:

Hypothesis: a pointless thread will still have many posts, and still run the risk of casting doubt upon the motives of the OP.

Conclusion: TBD

The experiment would have a point; but the thread could remain pointless.

I guess that means that the OP created a monster: although he thought the thread would, per se, have a ā€˜pointā€™ (due to the experiment), it turns out that it remains pointless. Run for the hills! The thread has reached critical mass, and is about to run amok! šŸ˜‰

You donā€™t understand. My point wasā€¦ I meanā€¦ an experiment could, in principle, ā€¦ umā€¦ you know, itā€™s in the eye of the beholderā€¦ and, uhā€¦ if the hypothesis is notā€¦ ahā€¦ er, if there is noā€¦ I mean, if the so-called experimenter hasā€¦ justā€¦ if he doesā€¦
