Political Priests

Have there ever been priests (whether parochial priest, bishop, cardinal, etc.) who have also been great political and/or economic theorists in the vein of Edmund Burke, Joseph de Maistre, Lord Acton, William F Buckley, etc.? Thank you so much in advance!

The first priest I thought of who fits your description of a political theorist is Père Lacordaire, who lived in the nineteenth century.

I’m less familiar with the life of Archbishop Romero, but I think he was also a political commentator in his time:

I think it was Dom Helda Camera who said “When I feed the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a Communist”. Don’t know an awful lot about him, but I seem to recall he was a Latin American Benedictine bishop who was active in the public sphere.
