Hi Everyone!

I do NOT want to start controversy, just want to ask an interesting question…

Would you rather have an Athiest who was pro-life, and shared all the other Catholic social teachings, gay marriage, etc, as your president,

or

A “catholic” who was pro-choice, pro gay marriage, and only went to church when the cameras were there.

Just a question.
 
Being protestant and agreeing with about 95 % of what the Catholic Church teaches I would have to say the first option.
 
Neither…

Atheist can be doing it for the same reason. Also regardless of their social teachings, they do not acknowledge God, making everything else suspect.

The Catholic is certainly not a practicing Catholic, but he’s Catholic.

Tough call…
 
Naturally, the person who says they are atheist. The second person would be disgracing all Catholics everywhere. We need 100% Catholics today…not the kind that simply “go through the motions” of being a Catholic and don’t live out what they learn. I shiver when I think about those kind of Catholics.

God, help us!
 
The atheist, without a doubt.

I’d actually have a much more difficult time choosing if the options were the dissenting Catholic and a similarly minded atheist. There may be a better chance of changing the heart of the “Catholic” or having them support less extreme measures with regards to promoting access to abortion/same-sex marriage… but then there’s the issue of what kind of scandal such a person causes the Church.
 
I completely agree with lil_flower_luv.

The candidate who calls himself a catholic is NOT a catholic, and is in fact creating a bad name for all other Catholics. Allowing such a person to publicly proclaim things is terrible.

My vote would be for the atheist. I personally don’t care about the religion of a politician, so long as s/he is doing what is best for the nation. Eliminating abortion being one of the only things that I think can really save this country.
 
I’m voting for the atheist too. I’d much rather have an honest atheist than a fake Christian.
 
I’d go for the Athiest, especially since he (or she) is probably not an Athiest at all, but merely has been incorrectly led to believe he or she is. This Athiest says “yes” to God and is therefore, in my opinion, an “anonymous Christian”. The so-called Catholic says “no” to God.

There are so many people who think they don’t believe in God because they (rightly) reject what is actually a false understanding of God. I think many of us would find that if we sat down and explained God to these people in another more truthful way, we (and they) would find that they are really not Athiests at all. The truth is written on our hearts.
