I’ve seen the video of the Polka Mass at St. Peter’s in 1983.

Not only did Fr. Frank lead the event to St. Peter’s, he was the celebrant.

God bless Fr. Frank!

The problem with novelty is that it is never enough. One has to find new ways to entertain oneself, even at the expense of offending God.

Polka Masses, Folk Masses, and all other types of “look at me, look at me, look at my music” Masses denigrate the liturgical sensibilities of the Catholics who attend them, and dull their abilities to experience the awesome power of Jesus Christ dying on the Cross as being truly present at every single (valid) Mass.

Those who go to Mass out of love for such profane music are to be pitied, for on the day of reckoning, I wonder how prepared their soul will be to gaze directly into the eyes of Jesus, with no “comfortable” “feel-good” liturgical style to hide behind?

And lest you get the wrong impression, I would agree that a person who goes to a Mass just for the exquisite Gregorian chant and forgets the presence of our Lord is also in error.

(Though, I find it much harder to believe that many people would attend a Mass with properly done chant and “forget” about our Lord, than I would believe that a “community” who loves their polka music so much they have to have a special Mass with it might happen to “forget” about the awesome miracle that is taking place before their eyes…)

Imagine trying to “improve” Heaven on Earth (the Mass) by introducing polka music and other antics.

Absolutely absurd.

If more people had a better understanding of the Mass, things like “polka masses” would neve be concocted…

Your entire mission here seems to be to spread the good news of polka Masses… Double threading and all I mean.

I dub thee the “Polka Apostle.”

The big question is, is this your interpretation of the “New Evangelization?” Spreading the gospel of Fr. Frank’s Polka Mass?

Well, I’m against “novelty” myself, but in some parishes around here the polka Mass was never a novelty–always a tradition. Of course, they only do it once a year.

Bingo. The bottom line is that we cannot make the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass “better”, either by adding polka music, liturgical dancers OR hats to the heads of women…

Correct, one cannot improve the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by headcovering, but it honors one’s husband to do it, per 1 Corinthians (11:2-16).
That’s why I cover my head to pray.
