Polka Masses?

Does anyone like polka Masses? I attended one once, and once was enough. Don’t get me wrong: I’m half Lithuanian and partial to polka music, but I don’t think that music is appropriate for Mass.
 
It’s an ethnic mass and just as beautiful (and as valid) as any mass full of organ music and incense. Sometimes we overlook that mass is actually the “celebration” of the Eucharist, not a somber event or an “obligation”. In different cultures, the celebration takes different forms, which is why Vatican II made great strides to recognize the uniqueness of the individual culture and brought ethnic masses into being.

I agree with you, Aurelia, but here’s something I’ve noticed. When the ethnic music of various groups has been incorporated into the Masses I have attended here (in the US), I have found it irritating: however, Masses in Mexico sound and feel just right! The rhythms, melodies and instruments just seem to belong in the Mass! I never understand this, but I always find it to be true!
