(poll) Catholics, please answer this question about Mass

I am wondering how often you go to Mass, how often you have gone to daily Mass in the last three years, since supposedly, a person can hear the entire Bible in three years by going to daily Mass.

We Catholics need to learn the Word so Protesants can’t … uh… get one over on us, as it were… 🙂

I always go to Sunday Mass…and lector sometimes. Daily Mass is more difficult when working…so not very often.

I think you have left out a category. I go every Sunday and all holy/feast days of obligation. Peace.

Where did that phrase come from? i mean, Did Protestants really invent the work ethic?

What? Catholics are lazy??? :confused:

True Catholics always work harder than Protestants, though… because if they are attending to business, they are constantly busy"working out their salvation with fear and trembling," (Phil 2:12) obviously the most imporant work of all…

Now THAT is some serious, serious work!!! :banghead::juggle::hammering:

I go every Sunday and sporadically, maybe once a week during the week depending on schedule. I don’t think Protestants can rightly claim to know the Word “better” for the simple fact that they often interpret it in a vacuum, and because they don’t adhere to the other part of the Word - Sacred Tradition. :o

Also, you can’t hear the “whole” Bible in 3 years as I understand. It’s the vast majority of the NT and part of the OT. Here are Lectionary stats of what is read. And also, the mass isn’t intended to replace Bible reading.

you can also read them here @ CAF (Sac Scripture & Non-C Relgions)… i post them daily… in large print and with some parts highlighted in color…

and it’s better to read the readings that i post because:

i include my always-uplilfting and undoutedly always-helpful commentary… 🙂

i wholeheartedly agree w/ what you say… except for that last sentence…

yes, we should read Scripture at home, not just hear it at Mass… but sometimes reading it when not in the Presence of Christ (and all of Heaven, as is the case w/ the Mass) we can … uh… develop doubts and… start losing faith…

or do i only speak for myself here???

Yes we are always working hard for our salvation…as you referenced! We are works in progress. There is no such thing as saved once saved always.

I spent time in the deep south where they felt you could accept Christ as “your personal Lord and Savior” and worry about nothing else. Are they in for a surprise.

I just have to say, thanks for that awesome link! I’ve always wanted to see a nice breakdown like that for the percentage of Scripture in the Lectionary, but that goes even beyond my expectations! Truly remarkable. 👍

Agreed! It means so much to know what others are thinking about the daily
readings. Copland’s observations are outstanding, when he shares them…

Regardless, the Church tells us that we should read the Bible, and even attaches a plenary indulgence to it.

If you don’t read it, it’s your loss, and a very great one at that.

I realize the question isn’t directed to me, but my answer would have to be - how could I?

First, there isn’t even daily Mass in my parish. There is either Mass or Morning Prayer, but only once a day and at a time I cannot attend. Even on Holy Days, when there are two Masses (the morning of the feast and the vigil the night before) I often find it impossible to be there. The parish I attend serves 5 towns, so it’s not like I can run up the street to a different church with Mass at a different time. And in other parts of the country (not to mention the world) people may not even have weekly Sunday Mass available. I am very grateful that I do have the opportunity to attend Mass every Sunday.

I do love Magnificat, which includes all the prayers and readings for Morning and Evening Prayer and for the Mass for every day, so that I can join with the Church at prayer wherever I may be.
 
I am blessed to have an outside sales job. Hence, I can schedule my day around a daily Mass in my area. Or more accurate, I can schedule my daily Mass around my work day. I’m within 25 miles of an 8:15, 8:30, 9:00, 10:30, 11:30, and 12:10 daily Mass.

And another bonus, there is a 7:00 o’clock morning vespers right on my way to work, as well as a Wednesday prayer meeting!!!

yes, that is a thought i have often had…

which is why i try my best to disabuse poeple of such stupid notions… unbibilical notions…

where anyone got tthat in the Bible is beyond me… the more i know about the Word (not to mention life in general & human nature…) , the more i know that God hates sin and will NOT tolerate even the smallest sin…

and why should HE?? He said to “be perfect as my father in Heaven is perfect” etc, etc…

Heaven will allow NO stain or spot of sin into it… which is why Purgatory is the most logical thing in the wolrd… Purgatory is the mercy of God and the holiness of God…
